| Dept Of Health

Lt. Col. Liquori L. Etheridge isn’t a man of few words but, after winning the Army’s Social Worker of the Year for 2020, he was left speechless. Etheridge, who works in the Department of Social Work at William Beaumont Army Medical Center, was named the Army’s Social Worker of the Year for 2020.

Etheridge has ten years of active duty service and has been a licensed clinical social worker for 11 years.

“I initially wanted to become a psychologist, but during my OIF deployment I met a Division Behavioral Health Officer who was a social worker,” Etheridge said. “He was instrumental in explaining how the field of social work contributed to sustaining a ready force by providing for the mental and emotional needs of the force. I understood the impact years of combat had on Soldiers and family members.”

The award is presented annually to active duty social workers

BOSTON, Oct. 12, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — Boston-based VUE Health was the proud recipient of the Gold award for Orphan Product Marketing Initiative for the “Escape the Castle” campaign they created for EUSA Pharma at this past Thursday’s MM&M Awards (https://www.mmm-online.com/mmm-awards/gold-orphan-product-marketing-initiative-2020/).

This award, which recognizes best-in-class industry advertising and marketing strategy and executions within the pharmaceutical industry, was held virtually due to COVID-19; however, the VUE team was able to bring people together in a socially responsible way via micro-parties to celebrate as a team. As a woman-owned business, they are proud to support several women-owned businesses that have been hit particularly hard due to the pandemic, including Viga Social Catering, Corinthian Events, Sweetbay Florist and East Coast Primped.

Kathryn Wilson, CEO of VUE Health, said, “It was important to me to bring some light into this year. The team worked really hard on this fantastic initiative and I

Is it safe to go trick-or-treating this year amid COVID-19?

If your family is skipping on trick-or-treating, here are 5 alternative ideas for Halloween.

USA TODAY

Ventura County public health officials to follow state guidelines, urge public to consider safer alternatives at home

As families begin to prepare for Halloween and Dia De Los Muertos celebrations, the state is strongly suggesting they not trick-or-treat or attend parties, but celebrate with their own households at home or virtually.

Dr. Mark Ghaly, the state’s Health and Human Services secretary, said he wants to see households get creative this holiday season and challenged families to find alternative ways to celebrate that don’t include hosting parties, gatherings or trick-or-treating, all of which could contribute to the spread of coronavirus.

“Some traditional Halloween celebrations such as parties and door-to-door trick-or-treating pose a high risk of spreading COVID-19 and are strongly discouraged,” Ghaly said during Tuesday’s press conference. “If a positive case is discovered, it

With a rapidly growing aging population, securing Social Security funds is now more crucial than ever. But how did we get here in the first place?

USA TODAY

Next year will bring another paltry rise in Social Security checks for older Americans already struggling financially with the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 68 million people – including retirees, as well as disabled people and others – who rely on Social Security will receive a 1.3% cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) next year, the Social Security Administration said Tuesday. Increases have been modest for years because of persistently low inflation

For the average retiree who got a check of $1,523 this year, that would mean an additional $20 a month, SSA said.

The 1.3% COLA is the smallest since 2017 and slightly below the 1.4% average over the past decade, a period of unusually low inflation, according to the Senior Citizens

Whitney Way Thore is reflecting on her mental health struggles.

In honor of World Mental Health Day, the My Big Fat Fabulous Life star, 36, reflected on the “profound personal loss” she experienced this year, which included splitting from fiancé Chase Severino after learning he was expecting a child with another woman.

“Hey y’all. It’s #worldmentalhealthday and I just want to remind you that if you’re struggling, you’re not alone,” she wrote at the start of the candid post. “I was diagnosed with depression at 18 and have been dealing with it for more than 20 years. I’ve also been diagnosed with atypical anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and generalized anxiety disorder.”

“2020 has been chaotic, terrifying, divisive, and disheartening. Even the most positive people with no history of mental health issues have probably felt hopeless, helpless, and like things are bleak,” she continued. “If

The crucial year for social order-global order transformational changes

October 12, 2020
| Global Health

The underlying political driver of the current tensions in the global order is the actual or potential failure of economies to deliver social outcomes that are politically sustainable. This is not just a phenomenon that brought about Brexit and Boris Johnson in the U.K. or Trump in the U.S. This has been and is the drama of developing economies for decades, the source of social unrest in Eastern Europe, the fear of the Communist Party of China, and the discontent of Europeans with the strictures of the EU. It is global and deep seated; sweeping and systemic.

Populist nationalism is on the rise and authoritarianism is increasing as a result. The easy road for politicians to take today is to appeal to national strength and rally their publics around the flag. The hard road to take is to seize on this moment of hyper-interconnectivity revealed by the COVID-19 crisis and

Gottlieb predicts “a lot of death and disease” before end of the year as COVID cases rise

October 11, 2020

| Health Article

Washington — With the number of confirmed coronavirus cases continuing to rise in states across the country, Dr. Scott Gottlieb, the former commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration, warned that there is going to be “a lot of death and disease” from now until the end of 2020.

“We’re in a difficult situation heading into the fall,” Gottlieb said Sunday on “Face the Nation.” “I think the only caveat is in terms of us being better prepared for this wave, is that we have dramatically improved clinical care in hospitals. So I think we’re going to have better outcomes overall, but we’re still going to have a lot of death and disease between now and the end of the year.”

There have been more than 7.7 million confirmed cases of the coronavirus in the U.S., and 15 states have a positivity rate above 10%. Forty states have an expanding
