UNITED NATIONS — The coronavirus pandemic has highlighted the “utterly inadequate health systems” around the world, U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said Wednesday in arguing that universal health coverage is essential for nations to deal with future health crises.

He said the failure to respond adequately to the outbreak has claimed more than 1 million lives, infected over 30 million people in 190 countries, wiped out 500 million jobs and is costing the global economy $375 billion a month. Indicators of human advancement and well-being are going in reverse for the first time since the U.N. started measuring them in 1990,

(Reuters) – Universal Health Services Inc UHS.N said on Thursday that its corporate network is being restored after a malware incident knocked it out for five days.

In a statement, the healthcare group said it was confident its hospital networks would be “restored and reconnected soon.”

The company provided no precise timetable but said that, as far as its corporate-level administrative systems were concerned, “the recovery process is either complete or well underway in a prioritized manner.”

Universal, which runs some 400 healthcare centers and hospitals across the United States and the U.K., had been fighting to restore its systems since the incident began on Sunday.

The company said the ransomware attack has forced its facilities to revert to using offline processes and documentation methods.

The computer networks of a major hospital chain in the U.S. and Britain have been hit by a massive cyberattack that may be the largest such attack on a medical institution in U.S. history.

According to NBC News, Universal Health Systems, an operator of more than 400 locations, was knocked offline over the weekend due to what the hospital system calls a “security issue.”

The hospital acknowledged the security issue in a statement and said it is working with IT security professionals to restore operations as quickly as possible.

No patient or employee data appears to have been compromised, the healthcare system said.

The company said its facilities reverted to using offline processes and documentation methods. According to NBC News, some of that included filing patient information with pen and paper.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Hospital chain Universal Health Services’ network remains offline on Tuesday, two days after the company fell prey to an apparent ransomware attack, it told employees via text.

On Monday the operator of about 400 hospitals and care centers across the United States and the United Kingdom, announced in a statement it was dealing with an “IT security issue.”

UHS has provided no details, but experts said the outage had the hallmarks of ransomware, a breed of malicious software that locks users out of their computers until a digital payment is made.

The text message seen by Reuters said “the corporate network remains offline” and provided no timetable for when computer access would be restored. It instructed some employees to “please continue to work remotely using alternative communication channels.”

At UHS’ Cedar Hills Hospital outside Portland, Oregon, the outage means that new prescriptions are not being issued and

A computer outage at a major hospital chain thrust health care facilities across the U.S. into chaos Monday, with treatment impeded as doctors and nurses already burdened by the coronavirus pandemic were forced to rely on paper backup systems.

Universal Health Services, which operates more than 250 hospitals and other clinical facilities in the U.S., blamed the outage on an unspecified IT “security issue” in a statement posted to its website Monday but provided no details about the incident, such as how many facilities were affected and whether patients had to be diverted to other hospitals.

UHS workers reached by The Associated Press at company facilities in Texas and Washington, D.C. described mad scrambles after the outage began overnight on Sunday to render care, including longer emergency room waits and anxiety over determining which patients might be infected with the virus that causes COVID-19.

May 26, 2020

| Global Health

Weight problems has been for years a prominent and well-publicized global health drawback. Vancouver Normal Hospital’s emergency division shaped a multi-disciplinary workforce with the goal of working collectively to improve office well being and safety, leading to an improved working climate where employees report feeling engaged and better able to present the type of high quality care that emergency patients deserve.

Currently congress is working on hammering out a compromise, but this effort is hampered by a nonetheless misinformed public, politics as regular, and the truth that at the least some of the members of congress may be within the pockets of the healthcare insurance industry.

You will need to be aware that it’s believed that a substantial amount of the fear individuals have concerning a single payer system is because of propaganda put forth both discreetly and overtly by healthcare insurance coverage lobbying companies whose employers would really like … Read More
