Washington Coronavirus Updates Paused Until Tuesday Afternoon

October 13, 2020

SEATTLE, WA — A glitch in Washington’s coronavirus reporting system kept the state from releasing coronavirus updates for a second day, officials announced Monday.

On Sunday, the Washington State Department of Health said a data processing issue prevented its dashboards from reflecting up-to-date information. Full reporting had been expected to resume the next day. But on Monday afternoon, the state said it would require another day to complete the fix.

On October 11, the Washington State Department of Health discovered a data issue that required a rollback of the COVID-19 data dashboard to include only data current as of 11:59 p.m. on 10/9/2020. We will need until tomorrow to fully test and implement required revisions and update this dashboard. This issue also means that the COVID-19 risk assessment dashboard reflects data current as of 11:59 p.m. on 10/8/2020.

We plan to update both dashboards tomorrow afternoon (10/13/2020). We apologize for

Nurses at Backus Hospital in Norwich plan to strike Tuesday in protest over contract talks

Nurses at Backus Hospital in Norwich are set to strike Tuesday and Wednesday to protest what they say is the company’s refusal to negotiate a contract.

The hospital and Backus Federation of Nurses, part of AFT Connecticut that represents more than 400 nurses have been in contract talks since June. The two sides differ on compensation, improved distribution of personal protective equipment and recruiting and keeping new nurses, according to the union.

A spokeswoman for parent company Hartford HealthCare did not immediately respond to questions about staffing at Backus Hospital during the walkout. Donna Handley, president of the hospital, said earlier this month Backus will remain open during a strike and will work to reach an agreement.

Union President Sherri Dayton said recent negotiations led to progress on improved protective gear policies, expanded access for breastfeeding by new mothers and accountability for safe patient limits.

But the company has not

MADISON, Wis. — Public Health officials are saying that the long lines and two to three hour wait time to get a COVID test at the Alliant Energy Center Tuesday was an anomaly.

Testing site director Ken Van Horn said there were more COVID tests administered Tuesday in an eight hour period than anywhere in the state of Wisconsin to date. He said the sudden increase in demand was a result of several factors.

“Yesterday we had unprecedented demand and we ended up testing 3,150 people in eight hours. Yesterday was the first day of our new hours. We weren’t open on Monday for the first time since May 11,” Van Horn said.

At the end of the day,

Chris Wallace, the moderator of the first presidential debate on Tuesday, said in an interview on Friday that Trump showed no signs of illness at the event.

But he also noted that Trump’s family members present at the debate did not abide by the mask mandates put in place by the Cleveland Clinic.

“The interesting thing was that the Cleveland Clinic said that everybody in the hall with the exception of the president the vice president and myself had to wear a mask,” Wallace said.

Trump’s group wore masks as they entered the hall but took them off when they sat down. According to NBC News reporters who attended the debate, a doctor from the Cleveland Clinic tried to offer some of the group masks but was waived away.

Wallace added that Trump’s positive test will recenter the focus of the election

CONNECTICUT — Connecticut saw its largest single-day jump in coronavirus hospitalizations in months Tuesday with a net increase of 17 patients, bringing the total to 92.

COVID-19 hospitalizations were last above 90 patients July 2, according to data from the state Department of Public Health. Hospitalizations increased the most in Hartford County, with a net gain of six patients, followed by New Haven County with five and Fairfield with four.

Hospitalizations were still far removed from the state’s peak of nearly 2,000 patients in mid-April.

Another troubling statistic announced Tuesday was a positive coronavirus test rate of 1.75 percent. There were 182 positive cases identified out of 10,380 tests. The state’s positive test rate dipped below 1 percent over the weekend after days above 1 percent, but Tuesday’s rate was the highest in some time.

Gov. Ned Lamont said at a news conference Tuesday that he believes the daily numbers
