The Health 202: Trump is taking Regeneron’s new coronavirus treatment. It’s used for mild symptoms.

But Trump is also taking a vaccine-like drug made by Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, a promising covid-19 treatment.

Researchers are using Regeneron’s experimental antibody drug in a very different way: They’re giving it to patients with only mild symptoms.

Many experts view the drug as the best bet to stymie the coronavirus and transform it from a potentially lethal disease into a treatable illness.

“This drug, called a monoclonal antibody cocktail, aims to keep people out of the hospital altogether,” my colleague Carolyn Y. Johnson wrote recently. “The experimental shot of lab-generated antibodies imitates the body’s own disease-fighting force. The goal is to boost a person’s immune defense, instead of waiting for human biology to muster its own response — and possibly lose to the virus.”

The antibodies are grown in rodents that are genetically engineered to have humanized immune systems, Carolyn explains.

Last week, Regeneron announced its drug appeared effective against

October 5, 2020

| Health Article

As President Trump continues to be treated at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, doctors and senior White House staff members have given conflicting updates about the president’s condition, treatments and when he learned he was infected with the coronavirus.

A timeline of events about the president’s illness is drawn from his tweets, news conferences, statements from the White House and reporting from The New York Times.

Wednesday

Mr. Trump and his team traveled to Minnesota for a rally that lasted about 45 minutes — about half the length of his typical campaign speeches.

During the event, one of Mr. Trump’s closest advisers, Hope Hicks, started to have symptoms related to the virus.

On the return trip, Mr. Trump slept as some of his advisers spoke about the condition of Ms. Hicks, who was isolated in the back of the plane.

Thursday

News that Ms. Hicks tested positive for the

From Men’s Health

Researchers at the University of Southern California have found that COVID-19 symptoms often manifest in patients in a particular order. According to a scientific paper entitled ‘Modeling the Onset of COVID-19 Symptoms’, published in the Frontiers in Public Health journal, the team attempted to discern the most common order in which symptoms presented themselves. The intention was to enable healthcare professionals to more quickly distinguish cases of COVID-19 from other conditions with similar symptoms, such as flu and allergies.

What is the order of COVID-19 symptoms?

Using World Health Organization data from more than 55,000 patients in China, the research team determined that fever is most frequently the first symptom of the virus. This is followed by a cough, then aches and pains in the throat, muscles, and head, then nausea and/or vomiting. Diarrhea is the last symptom to appear.

| Health News

Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie tweeted Saturday that he’s checked himself into a hospital, hours after he announced he had tested positive for the coronavirus.

Christie said that after consulting with his doctors, he went to Morristown Medical Center on Saturday afternoon. He said he’s only experiencing mild symptoms.

“Due to my history of asthma, we decided this is an important precautionary measure,” he tweeted.

Christie, who has publicly struggled with his weight, is the latest in a string of virus cases connected to President Donald Trump’s inner circle.

Trump’s former 2016 rival told The Associated Press on Friday that the last time he was with the president was Tuesday in Cleveland during preparations for his debate with former Vice President Joe Biden. Christie had tweeted Friday morning that he had last tested negative ahead of Tuesday’s debate and was not having any symptoms then.

In 2013, during Christie’s

By Alexandra Alper, Steve Holland

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – President Donald Trump is not yet on a clear path to recovery from COVID-19 and some of his vital signs over the last 24 hours were very concerning, a person familiar with his health said on Saturday.

The source’s assessment of the Republican president’s medical status came after a team of doctors told reporters at a press conference earlier on Saturday that he was “doing very well.”

One of those doctors said Trump had told them “‘I feel like I could walk out of here today.’”

The source, who asked not to be identified, said the next 48 hours will be critical in terms of Trump’s care.

Trump, 74, left the White House and was moved to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center near Washington on Friday just hours after he was diagnosed with COVID-19.

The New York Times said the decision

Donald and Melania Trump Test Positive for Coronavirus: ‘We Will Get Through This TOGETHER!’

PLUS: Melania Trump Speaks Out After Being Diagnosed with COVID-19: ‘Please Be Sure You Are Staying Safe’

One of the most difficult issues in fighting COVID-19 is that the virus can create a myriad of different reactions in people. Some people with the illness never show symptoms, while others deal with days of fevers and coughing. Still other, more severe cases of coronavirus can lead to respiratory failure and deadly blood clots. That makes treating COVID-19 complicated, and with no cure or vaccine, health care workers have worked tirelessly throughout the pandemic to identify the best course of treatment for each patient.

That’s the issue now facing President Donald Trump’s doctors, who will monitor the president’s reaction to COVID-19 after he and First Lady Melania Trump tested positive for the virus. Trump is heading to Walter

Menopausal Symptoms Tied to Cardiovascular Risk

October 2, 2020

| Health News

A new analysis of data from the Women’s Health Initiative CaD (Calcium and Vitamin D) trial showed that women with greater menopausal symptoms faced higher risk of cardiovascular illness, researchers said.

Women who had two or more moderate to severe menopausal symptoms had higher rates of stroke (hazard ratio 1.40, 95% CI 1.04-1.89) and cardiovascular disease (HR 1.35, 95% CI 1.18-1.54), reported Matthew Nudy, MD, of the Penn State Hershey Medical Center, and colleagues.

Moreover, calcium and vitamin D supplements did not mitigate risk of adverse health outcomes in this population, Nudy said in a presentation at the North American Menopause Society 2020 virtual meeting.

“More moderate or severe menopausal symptoms were associated with more cardiovascular disease and stroke,” Nudy said in the presentation. He added that it is unknown whether treating cardiovascular disease will reduce menopausal symptoms or vice versa.

| Health Current Events

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – U.S. President Donald Trump is experiencing mild symptoms after testing positive for the coronavirus, administration officials said on Friday, as the White House and presidential election campaign scrambled to adjust to the bombshell development.

Trump, who has played down the threat of the coronavirus pandemic from the outset, said he and his wife Melania had tested positive for the deadly virus and were going into quarantine. Their son Barron had tested negative, a White House official said.

Trump is not incapacitated and is working in isolation to avoid infecting others, a White House official said. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows said the president, 74, was exhibiting mild symptoms. They gave no more details.

“We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We will get through this TOGETHER!” Trump said in a tweet early on Friday morning.

Wall Street tumbled
