A survey of more than 12,000 students found that 85% of students are more stressed as a result of the pandemic compared to 2019.

SAN DIEGO — A huge majority of college students are reporting feeling more stressed as they try to begin a new year amid a global pandemic.

At San Diego State a small portion of students are returning to the classroom on Monday.

It’s been a tumultuous school year so far with 1,170 COVID-19 cases related to the university among students and staff. The cases have lead to classroom closures and quarantining of several students.

It may not come as much of a surprise the mental health of students is much worse this year because of the pandemic.

Freshman Hannah O’Campo at SDSU said, “It’s been stressful. I feel like I have to teach myself a lot. Alexis Zepeda added, “It’s been really crazy, online school is

Your Good Health: Breast-cancer surgery can reduce potential pain and suffering

October 10, 2020

dr_keith_roach_with_bkg.jpgDear Dr. Roach: My 90-year-old father has been diagnosed with breast cancer. His doctor is recommending mastectomy, after which time they will determine a course of treatment.

My father is fairly healthy for his age, although he does have high blood pressure, diabetes and spinal stenosis, for which he takes oral medications.

He has a history of transient ischemic attack at age 75.

I am concerned that the risks of surgery at this age may be greater than that posed by the cancer. There is not much information available on male breast cancer, and any information you could provide would be appreciated.

G.S.

I am sorry about your father. Breast cancer in men is less common than in women, but usually diagnosed later, as male breast cancer is not readily suspected by patients or many physicians.

Yours is a question I have seen frequently in medical practice. The risk of

Europeans are suffering “pandemic fatigue” from the disruption caused by the spread of coronavirus, the World Health Organization (WHO) has warned.

It said levels of pandemic fatigue had reached more than 60% in some countries.

The WHO said many people across Europe are less motivated about following COVID-19 guidelines after months of uncertainty.

The warning came as the WHO and scientists said face masks are less effective in the rain at halting the spread of coronavirus.

The organisation outlined three calls to action to help the continent get back on track in its battle against coronavirus.

“Since the virus arrived in the European region eight months ago, citizens have made huge sacrifices to contain COVID-19,” said Dr Hans Henri Kluge, the WHO’s regional director for Europe.

“It has come at an extraordinary cost, which

When Kristin Waite-Labott, a nurse in Wisconsin, began stealing fentanyl and morphine from her hospital’s medical supply cabinets, she found it was relatively easy to cover her tracks.

Her drug inventory paperwork often didn’t add up, but she found coworkers willing to cover for her.

“They trusted me” she said. “Unfortunately I was taking advantage of that trust and that happens all the time.”

But Waite-Labott’s addiction to fentanyl quickly spiraled out of control.

Experts questioned President Donald Trump’s health and the severity of his COVID-19 infection after the president’s doctors said he has started on dexamethasone — a generic steroid used to reduce inflammation caused by other diseases.

Trump’s medical team announced Sunday that the president had received his first dose of the steroid after experiencing low oxygen levels. Doctors at Walter Reed National Medical Center held a press conference Sunday morning, where they confirmed Trump received supplemental oxygen Friday and Saturday after intially denying it.

The medical team also detailed Trump’s treatment plan, which including taking dexamethasone and a five-day treatment course of remdesivir.

September 27, 2020

| Health Article

The death of a 6-year-old boy who officials said was hospitalized with brain-eating amoeba sparked warnings about a possibly tainted water supply in a suburban Houston community.

Maria Castillo, the mother of Josiah McIntyre, said Saturday her son died Sept. 8 at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston and that doctors told her the cause was brain-eating amoeba.

Hospital spokeswoman Jenn Jacome confirmed his death there but said privacy laws prevented her from discussing the cause.

Related: The boy’s mom said that he might have had a chance if he was diagnosed correctly at the first hospital they visited.

The city of Lake Jackson, Texas, said in a statement Saturday that an unnamed 6-year-old boy had been hospitalized for “a rare and often fatal brain eating amoeba” it identified as naegleria fowleri.

“We are saddened by death of Josiah McIntyre,” Councilman Vinay Singhania said by email. “We are still investigating and
