Pandemic in the Spotlight at Disorderly VP Debate

October 8, 2020

| Health

The coronavirus pandemic was front and center Wednesday night as Vice President Mike Pence and Democratic vice presidential nominee Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) engaged in their sole debate of the presidential campaign. The event was less fractious than last week’s presidential debate, but still marked by interruptions and candidates speaking beyond their allotted time.

Differing Views on the Pandemic

“The American people have witnessed what is the greatest failure of any presidential administration in the history of our country,” Harris said. “Here are the facts: 210,000 dead people in our country in just the last several months, over 7 million people who have contracted this disease, one in five businesses closed. We’re looking at front-line workers who have been treated like sacrificial workers, and over 30 million people who in the last several months have had to file for unemployment.”

And yet, she continued, “on Jan. 28th, the vice president

Seattle startup Picnic raised an additional $3 million from existing investors as it gears up for a commercial rollout of its pizza-making robot.

Vulcan Capital, Flying Fish Partners, Creative Ventures, Arnold Venture Group, and others put more money behind Picnic, known for its automated food preparation device that can churn out up to 300 12-inch customized pizzas per hour. It follows a $5 million seed round in November.

The fresh cash will be used for product development, response to customer interest, new hires, and marketing. The company has seen increased demand for its machine during the pandemic from customers looking for ways to prepare food with less contact.

“This work is important because we’re supporting struggling restaurants who are looking for any advantage that will help them weather the storm of losing 60% of their sales,” CEO

Press release from San Ramon Regional Medical Center:

Oct. 2, 2020

San Ramon Regional Medical Center is committed to the fight against breast cancer. Statistics indicate that one out of every eight women will develop breast cancer sometime in her lifetime. If detected early, the five-year survival rate is 98 percent. Mammograms are the most effective form of early detection.

For patients who have been putting off their medical needs due to fear of coming to the hospital, there is no need to delay care. San Ramon Regional Medical Center continues to care for all patients with healthcare needs not related to COVID-19 and that includes providing routine mammograms and screenings. It’s important that patients do not put off routine screenings as that can create problems down the road.

Every precaution is being taken, combining strong infection prevention processes, staff training, testing, and ample supply of personal protective equipment. San

(Reuters) – Healthcare, always a top concern for U.S. voters, has taken on even greater importance amid a coronavirus pandemic that has killed more than 205,000 Americans and cost millions more their jobs.

The death of liberal Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, meanwhile, has raised the stakes of the upcoming legal battle over Obamacare, formally known as the Affordable Care Act, when the high court hears the Trump administration’s effort to repeal the law days after the Nov. 3 election.

Here is a look at some of the vast differences on healthcare policy between Republican President Donald Trump and his Democratic challenger, former Vice President Joe Biden:

Trump has ceded much of the response to the pandemic to the states, rather than pursuing a national effort to expand testing, coordinate contact tracing and acquire protective equipment in bulk. He has also sent mixed messages on masks, which public health

America’s racial reckoning is putting a spotlight on Black mental health

September 27, 2020

As a child, Reginald Howard struggled with destructive visions, moments where he imagined destroying the shelves at the corner store or pushing another child down, but when he tried to identify what was happening, his mother attributed it to his “Howard blood.”

“At that point, I probably should have been in therapy but because there’s such a stigma behind therapy in the Black community, and around the world but I’ll start within my community, I really didn’t get the help that I needed,” Howard said.

His father also struggled with mental illness, a situation that led Howard’s grandmother to refer to him and his sister as “demon children.”

Howard’s mental health went unaddressed as a child and he continued to struggle with mental illness into adulthood, which led to a crisis point in 2011.

Out of work at 20 years old, he learned his now-fiancé was pregnant. The anxiety of
