Public Health talks other COVID-19 testing options following temporary Alliant Energy Center site closure, slowdown

MADISON, Wis. – Following a temporary closure and slowdown at the Alliant Energy Center’s COVID-19 testing site Tuesday afternoon, Public Health Madison & Dane County recommended other options for those seeking tests that day.

In general, the health agency is asking people to consider the time, place and reason they’re getting tested.

“A lot of people do think the Alliant Energy Center is the first place to get tested,” Director of Testing Ken Van Horn said. “We always know that the first day of the week is a busy day, then today we had the added complication of our electronic registration system just didn’t work for about the first hour we were here today, and that caused a pretty big backup.”

Coronavirus testing site coming to South Milwaukee Bucyrus building

Three South Shore health departments are working together to offer a coronavirus testing site in one of the old Bucyrus buildings in South Milwaukee.

The health departments of Oak Creek, Cudahy and the South Milwaukee/St. Francis joint department are creating the site. Oak Creek’s common council passed a memorandum of understanding for the testing site at its Oct. 6 meeting.

The decision to proceed with the site comes as COVID-19 cases continue to surge across the state.

Oak Creek City Administrator Andrew Vickers said the partnership is much more efficient than any one community setting up a testing site alone. Federal and state funds are “streaming in” to help fund the facility, he said.

Oak Creek City Attorney Melissa Karls said South Milwaukee was chosen as the location because the old Bucyrus site will offer a drive-thru which will be especially useful with the colder months approaching.

Denver’s Pepsi Center Testing Site Closes: What To Know

DENVER, CO — Denver’s Pepsi Center testing site closed Wednesday and will be replaced with a series of community testing sites, public health officials said.

The Pepsi Center was established as a temporary testing solution while officials were setting up other sites, the city said.

The new sites will offer free, “low-barrier testing to historically underserved communities,” public health officials said. Flyers were distributed throughout the communities Wednesday.

Depending on each site’s logistics, people will be able to drive up and/or walk up for testing, health officials said.

The CVS Health rapid COVID-19 test site in Hartford will stay open through the end of the year rather than closing this week as planned, the city said Tuesday.

It’s the second extension of the free, walk-up, COVID-19 testing at the Samuel V. Arroyo Recreation Center in Pope Park, which CVS Health has been operating since June. The site, supported through a contract with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, was initially scheduled to run through July and then through September.

Health Department Offers Testing Site In Lockport On Wednesday

LOCKPORT, IL — If you are looking for a place to get tested for the coronavirus, the Will County Health Department and Community Health Center will offer free coronavirus testing in Lockport on Wednesday.

The health department offers free coronavirus testing throughout Will County at different locations. On Sept. 30, testing will be offered at Shiloh Baptist Church, 18101 W. Oak Ave., in Lockport to anyone who wants to be tested. The site will be for walk-ins only from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

According to the health department, you should bring your photo ID and insurance card when you go to get tested. Insurance is not required, but if you do have an insurance, a small administrative fee will be billed to your insurance by IDPH to cover the processing cost.

The health department will also offer testing on Monday at the health department in Monee, and Friday at
