COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — South Carolina’s education superintendent said she has sent $43 million of protective equipment to more than 1,300 schools in the state — fulfilling every item in their requests to help them open for in-person classes during the COVID-19 pandemic.

And Superintendent Molly Spearman promised Tuesday there is enough money left in the billions of dollars the federal government sent to South Carolina for pandemic help to pay for whatever else schools ask for as she urges every school district to get children back in classrooms at least part of the time.

“You may hear some of them saying we need more things. We are telling them, let us know what you need. We have the funding to get it for you,” Spearman said.

The latest purchases include 300,000 sheets of Plexiglass, which Spearman cited health experts who have told her when combined with masks cut the

Why Global Citizens Should Care

The UN’s Global Goal 2 aims to end hunger and malnutrition globally by 2030. But the COVID-19 pandemic has sparked hunger crises all over the world, including in Britain. It’s critical that we tackle food poverty, especially for children, otherwise it could have devastating impacts in other areas of life too, including health, education, and more. Take action to protect the most vulnerable communities from COVID-19 and its impacts here.

There has been a dramatic increase in the number of children registering for free school meals in the UK, poverty campaigners say, revealing the strain the COVID-19 pandemic is putting on family budgets.

An estimated 900,000 children signed up to the free school meals programme as the new academic year started in September, according to research released by the Food Foundation think tank. They published the data as part of a joint campaign to raise

ANN ARBOR – Nearly 30 school administrators across Washtenaw County have signed a joint letter with the Washtenaw County Health Department encouraging community members to help limit the spread of COVID-19 so that in-person instruction can be phased in throughout the fall and winter.

“As we return to face-to-face instruction, we want to be sure we are prioritizing the health and safety of our students, families, and staff. With over 50,000 students and 15,000 staff across our schools, health and safety is of utmost importance,” Washtenaw Intermediate School District (WISD) Interim Superintendent Naomi Norman said in a statement.

“When schools need to unexpectedly transition from open to closed to open again due to positive COVID-19 cases, it puts a burden on students, families, staff, and our broader community,” Norman continued. “We are taking safety very seriously by providing remote options and enacting strict protocols within our schools, but bringing students

Mississippi State Department of Health launches school district COVID-19 data | News

| Dept Of Health

Like most other districts throughout Mississippi, all four public school districts serving Monroe County students have witnessed positive COVID-19 cases, leading to quarantines of those who have been in close contact.

While the Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) has reported data on its website since late August about how many school-related cases there are for each county, it began reporting numbers last week specific to each school in the state.

The K-12 reports of COVID-19 school cases, outbreaks and exposure link gives a county-by-county breakdown with data for each individual school. Weekly information includes total numbers pertaining to faculty and staff and students who tested positive for COVID-19, the total number of those on quarantine due to exposure and the number of outbreaks since the beginning of the school year.

As preventative measures against COVID-19, students arriving at school daily have their temperatures checked and hand sanitizer applied before

HOBOKEN, NJ — Elysian Charter School, one of the city’s three charter schools, confirmed over the weekend that it’s going all-remote for now. Sources said that the decision was made after a student at the K-8 school tested positive for coronavirus.

Vijay Chaudhury, a spokesman for Mayor Ravi Bhalla, said over the weekend, “Elysian Charter School has made the decision to go remote given recent developments and in consultation with the Hoboken Health Department. We are confident their precautions will help keep our children safe.”

A representative for the school, located at the north end of town, declined to discuss the matter further or say how long they’ll be closed, but said that they had informed the school community. This story will be updated if more information is received, such as a reopening date.

Charter schools in New Jersey are considered public and do not charge tuition, but receive state
