OCEAN CITY, NJ — A former maintenance worker for Ocean City schools was sentenced Tuesday to prison for defrauding New Jersey state health benefits programs. James Wildman and Richard McAllister, a former Pleasantville teacher, received 37 to 46 months in prison for their roles in the scheme.

They previously pleaded guilty to separate charges on conspiring to commit health care fraud. The conspiracy centers around compound medications — specialty medications mixed by a pharmacist to meet the specific medical needs of an individual patient.

Wildman and McAllister recruited people from 2015-16 to obtain expensive and medically unnecessary compound medications from Louisiana pharmacy Central Rexall Drugs Inc., according to authorities.

Members of the conspiracy learned that certain compound prescriptions — including pain, scar, antifungal, and libido creams, as well as vitamin combinations — were reimbursed for up to thousands of dollars for a one-month supply. The conspirators also noticed that some

The conspirators also learned that some New Jersey state and local government and education employees, including teachers, firefighters and state troopers, had insurance coverage for these particular medications, Carpenito said.

An entity referred to in court documents as the “Pharmacy Benefits Administrator” provided pharmacy benefit management services for the State Health Benefits Program, which covers qualified state and local government employees, retirees and eligible dependents, and the School Employees’ Health Benefits Program, which covers qualified local education employees, retirees and eligible dependents, Carpenito said.

Given that McAllister and Wildman were employees of the state’s public education system, they had access to and recruited others in the system to participate in the scheme, Carpenito said.

President Donald Trump’s COVID-19 diagnosis is raising fresh questions about the White House’s strategy for testing and containing the virus for a president whose cavalier attitude about the coronavirus has persisted since it landed on American shores.

The president has said others are tested before getting close to him, appearing to hold it as an iron shield of safety. He has largely eschewed mask-wearing and social distancing in meetings, travel and public events, while holding rallies for thousands of often maskless supporters.

The Trump administration has increasingly pinned its coronavirus testing strategy for the nation on antigen tests, which do not need a traditional lab for processing and quickly return results to patients. But the results are less accurate than those of the slower PCR tests.

The players are accused of submitting false reimbursement claims for rehabilitation therapy by a Houston trainer, according to the Harris County DA.

HOUSTON — Eight former NFL players and a Houston athletic trainer have been indicted in a scheme to defraud an NFL player trust fund by submitting false claims for medical benefits, Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg announced Monday.

Two of them, Corey Bradford and Shantee Orr, were Houston Texans and Jonathan Hadnot, Jr played college football at the University of Houston.

The claims were for rehabilitation by a trainer named Louis Ray, the owner of Rehab Express in the Galleria area.

Ray, 59, was indicted for the first-degree felony of Securing the Execution of a Document by Deception, for allegedly taking checks valued at more than $300,000. He surrendered Monday.

Prosecutors say Ray created fraudulent invoices claiming he performed treatments on players from March 7, 2016 to
