The Times obtained food safety inspection information for September 2020 from the Louisiana Department of Health. The Top 7 addresses with the most critical violations are listed, along with an explanation of the finding.

All restaurants in the Top 7 had at least five critical violations.

According to the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals, uncorrected critical violations are more likely to contribute to food contamination or illness. Non-critical violations are not directly related to food-borne illness but could become critical if uncorrected.

In total, there were about 775 violations in the region, and approximately 34% of those were critical. About 425 were repeated violations.

This is how often you should wash your cloth face mask.

Medical researchers are constantly learning new information about the coronavirus, leading to improved treatments and practices. At the same time, many questions remain unanswered, such as whether those who get infected develop immunity and, if so, for how long.

More concerning for public health experts is the abundance of misinformation about COVID-19, fueled in part by what they say are mixed messages from the federal government. On Monday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention officially recognized airborne transmission of the virus, after briefly acknowledging in September what the scientific community had been arguing for months, then taking down the guidance from its website days later.

Misconceptions about the potential severity of a disease that often doesn’t manifest any symptoms and the belief that it only threatens old, infirm folks are among the notions medical professionals

| Health News

A 400-pound bear had to be euthanized after it was found in a Colorado restaurant’s dumpster earlier this week.

On Wednesday, the Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) Southeast Region tweeted about the incident that happened in Woodland Park, Colorado.

According to the agency, the bear was able to get into the restaurant’s trash because the dumpster wasn’t locked.

WINNER OF ‘FAT BEAR WEEK’ COMPETITION CROWNED BY ALASKA NATIONAL PARK

Bill Vogrin, a CPW public information officer, told Fox News that the bear — which was estimated to be between 18 and 19 years old — was first found in the dumpster around midnight, but wildlife officers hoped the bear would find its way out overnight.

However, when an officer returned to the dumpster in the morning, the bear was still inside and was struggling to get out.

After wildlife officers tranquilized it and tipped the dumpster over, they saw the

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – Nick Fosberg owns Fozzy’s Bar and Grill which joined Casey’s Pub and Nora’s Place on a cease and desist letter sent to Winnebago County Public Health Administrator Dr. Sandra Martell fighting recent measures by the health department to stop indoor dining.

“People aren’t going to sit outside in 40-45 degree weather it’s either I lose my business now or I fight this and we see what happens and I lose it later on,” said Fosberg.

Illinois attorney Thomas DeVore represents the owners. In his letter he says the health department is trying to intimidate his clients.

“Sometimes we have department of health officials not many, but some like Dr. Martell who for whatever reason personal, political, or otherwise find it necessary to go out here and try to enforce something that can’t be enforced by anyone,” said DeVore.

Doctor Martell responds saying:

“It is extremely disappointing

Pakistan shuts restaurants with no distancing

October 2, 2020

| Health Article

KARACHI, Pakistan — Pakistan authorities have closed more than 100 restaurants and six wedding halls in the financial capital of Karachi over violations of social distancing rules amid a sudden increase in COVID-19 deaths.

The government has also imposed a lockdown in some of the city’s high-risk areas to contain the spread of the coronavirus. A similar crackdown over social distancing rules has also been ordered in other parts of the country.

Pakistanis have been seen routinely violating social distancing since last month when wedding halls were allowed to open on the condition they adhere to such rules.

Authorities earlier reported 13 out of the country’s 15 single-day COVID-19 fatalities in southern Sindh province, of which Karachi is the capital.

Pakistan has reported 313,431 confirmed cases with 6,499 deaths.

Restaurants can return to 100% capacity soon

October 1, 2020

| Health Article

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Gov. Henry McMaster said Thursday that he will soon lift restrictions that allowed South Carolina restaurants to only fill half their tables because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

McMaster didn’t say exactly when he would issue an order allowing full capacity at restaurants. The governor said other restrictions such as requiring masks when not eating and cutting off alcohol sales at 11 p.m. would remain.

“South Carolina is open for business. We never closed,” McMaster said to reporters after a Thursday meeting with military leaders.

McMaster announced the restaurant restrictions two months ago as a summer spike in COVID-19 cases reached its peak.

The rate of new cases has declined significantly from that mid-July peak, but the steady decline stopped in late August. Newly diagnosed cases have been fluctuating since with schools restarting. South Carolina never dipped below the national average.

More than 143,500 people have contracted

Reopening guidelines: Here’s what is allowed in restaurants, businesses in Texas

September 30, 2020
| Health Current Events

The governor emphasized that Texans must continue to wear masks, practice good hygiene and social distance as we move forward.

DALLAS — Gov. Greg Abbott’s latest update on Texas’ reopening plan loosened restrictions for businesses and restaurants.

Outdoor gatherings are still limited to 10 people unless the gathering is approved by the city mayor or the county judge of an unincorporated area where the gathering is held.

Face coverings are required unless there’s an exemption, such as eating, drinking or taking part in a religious gathering.

Businesses

Businesses have expanded to 75% capacity. This includes non-CISA (Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency) retail establishments, gyms, museums, libraries, office buildings and manufacturers.

Other businesses have no occupancy limits but must maintain 6-feet social distancing between work stations. That includes cosmetology salons, hair salons, barbershops, nail salons, massage establishments, tanning salons, tattoo studios, piercing studios and hair removal services.

All organizations should
