Fauci says large Trump rallies are ‘asking for trouble’ as virus surges.

Even as President Trump returned to the campaign trail in Florida and announced plans to begin a full schedule of rallies, the nation’s top infectious disease expert, Dr. Anthony S. Fauci, warned, “We know that that is asking for trouble when you do that” at a time when coronavirus cases are surging in many states.

Dr. Fauci told CNN on Monday, “We’ve seen that when you have situations of congregate settings where there are a lot of people without masks, the data speak for themselves. It happens. And now is even more so a worse time to do that, because when you look at what’s going on in the United States, it’s really very troublesome.”

He noted that many states were now seeing increases in positive tests — “It’s going in the wrong direction right now,” he said — and suggested that Americans should be “doubling down” on precautions rather

Hours before President Trump was set to return to the campaign trail in Florida on Monday, the nation’s top infectious disease expert, Dr. Anthony S. Fauci, warned that holding large rallies was “asking for trouble” with cases of the coronavirus surging in many states.

Dr. Fauci, in an interview with CNN, said that Americans needed to be more cautious in the fall and winter months, and warned that rising rates of infections in a number of states suggested Americans should be “doubling down” on precautions rather than casting them aside.

“We know that that is asking for trouble when you do that,” Dr. Fauci said of Mr. Trump’s decision to begin a full schedule of campaign rallies. “We’ve seen that when you have situations of congregate settings where there are a lot of people without masks, the data speak for themselves. Donald Trump chooses denial and recklessness as he’s set to resume campaign rallies

As President Donald Trump stood on a White House balcony Saturday — spewing mistruths about his opponent’s plan for policing and claiming the coronavirus is “disappearing” while hundreds of people watched from below — it was clear that his illness has taught him very little and he will continue to endanger Americans until Election Day.

There was a chance for a strategic pivot by the President after he contracted Covid-19 that would have helped him shore up his flagging approval ratings on the handling of the virus. After learning a great deal about coronavirus, as he claimed during his stay at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, he could have chosen a path of responsibility

Trump, on Sean Hannity’s Show, Optimistic About Holding Rallies

October 9, 2020

| Health News

President Trump called into Sean Hannity’s show on Thursday night and, while giving vague answers to questions about his health, suggested a rapid return to the campaign trail that could violate public health guidelines.

Mr. Trump said he wanted to hold a rally in Florida on Saturday — just two days away — and another rally the following night in Pennsylvania. He went on to say he was in “great shape” — even as he paused on a few occasions and seemed to cough or clear his throat — and again presented the monoclonal antibody treatment he received as a miracle cure, even though there is no clinical trial data to evaluate its effectiveness.

He did not give a clear answer when Mr. Hannity asked if he had tested negative for the coronavirus: He first said he wouldn’t get an “actual test” until Friday, then suggested that he had already

By Jeff Mason, Steve Holland

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – President Donald Trump said on Thursday he may return to the campaign trail with a rally on Saturday after the White House physician said he had completed his course of therapy for the novel coronavirus and could resume public events.

In an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity, Trump said he was likely to take a test for the coronavirus on Friday after testing positive for it a week ago. The White House has declined to say when the president last tested negative for COVID-19.

The president, who sounded hoarse, said he was looking at further campaign events in the coming days, including a rally in Florida on Saturday and in Pennsylvania on Sunday.

“Really good,” Trump said when asked in the evening interview how he was feeling. “I think I’m going to try doing a rally on Saturday night …

Few Covid safeguards as Trump campaign restarts rallies

Pence made an appearance at an outdoor event in Boulder City, Nev., on Thursday after the campaign agreed to limit attendance to a state-mandated capacity of 250. The Secret Service and campaign were supposed to enforce a mask mandate, but many attendees didn’t wear face coverings.

“Boulder City has been able to maintain a low infection since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic because of compliance and people’s willingness to follow the state directive,” said Lisa LaPlante, communications manager for Boulder City. “It is disappointing to see that some people in the crowd opted to go maskless.”

Some experts believe Pence should be in quarantine under CDC guidelines because he’s still within the incubation window for coronavirus infection after a Sept. 26 White House event for Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett. Multiple attendees of that event later tested positive for Covid-19. Pence has tested negative, and was cleared by

Trump hails virus treatment, says he’s ready to do rallies

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump said Thursday that he is ready to hold campaign rallies and he credited an experimental drug treatment with helping his recovery from COVID-19, although there is no way for the president or his doctors to know whether the drug had any effect.

“I’m feeling good. Really good. I think perfect,” Trump said during a telephone interview with Fox Business Channel, his first since he tested positive.

“I think I’m better to the point where I’d love to do a rally tonight,” Trump said adding that he no longer thinks he’s “contagious at all.”

Trump did not indicate where or when he might have contracted the virus, saying only, “If you’re anywhere around this thing you can catch it.” But he mentioned a recent Rose Garden event announcing his new Supreme Court nominee and a meeting with military families. He said family members often want
