PHOENIX — The number of Arizona children with health insurance, which had steadily increased over the past decade, has begun dropping again.

A new study shows in 2019, 161,000 Arizona children were uninsured, a 22% increase since 2016.

The report, out today from the Georgetown University Center for Children and Families, shows Arizona’s 9.2% rate of uninsured kids is fourth-highest in the nation, and almost double the national average.

Zaida Dedolph, director of health policy for the Children’s Action Alliance is concerned the numbers are trending in the wrong direction.

“They’re disappointing, but not surprising, given some of the trends that we’ve seen in the larger health-policy world, basically since 2016,” Dedolp commented. “The Affordable Care Act has been under attack, and people

Healthcare advocates worry that drops in children’s insurance coverage could only worsen as a result of the pandemic. (Adobe Stock)

October 9, 2020

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — During a time when the economy was notably strong, Missouri saw a significant increase in the number of children without health coverage.

An annual report released today by the Georgetown University Center for Children and Families reveals in 2019, roughly 95,000 kids in Missouri were uninsured, a nearly 34% increase from 2016.

Lindsey Baker, research director for the Missouri Budget Project, said the trend has long-term consequences, both for children and communities across the state.

“Without health coverage, children can’t access the care that they need to grow and thrive,” Baker asserted. “And there are long-term implications, both for health directly but also for economic success as those children grow older.”

Missouri’s rate of uninsured kids mirrors the national rate and reverses a

Trump’s Physician Says He Is ‘Safe’ to Begin ‘Public Engagements’ on Saturday

October 9, 2020

| Health Article

The president is saying that he feels “great.” He is saying that the heavy steroid he is on is “not a heavy steroid.” He is saying lucid things on the White House lawn, like: “We’re taking care of our seniors, you’re not vulnerable, but they like to say ‘the vulnerable,’ but you’re the least vulnerable, but for this one thing you are vulnerable.”

On Thursday night, President Trump’s physician agreed with the gist of his recent comments on his own health. In a memo, Dr. Sean Conley stated that “based on the trajectory of advanced diagnostics the team has been conducting, I fully anticipate the President’s safe return to public engagements by Saturday,” which will have been 10 days since his positive coronavirus test was announced.

Trump’s physician Sean Conley says the president has completed his course of therapy for Covid-19 and fully anticipates Trump’s

As Trump battles COVID-19, here’s how much of his health information can legally be shared with the public

October 8, 2020

| Health Facts

Within one day, President Donald Trump announced his COVID-19 diagnosis and was admitted to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center for treatment. The flurry of events was stunning, confusing and triggered many questions. What was his prognosis? When was he last tested for COVID-19? What is his viral load?

The answers were elusive.

Picture the scene on Oct. 5. White House physician Dr. Sean Conley, flanked by other members of Trump’s medical team, met with reporters outside the hospital. But Conley would not disclose the results of the president’s lung scans and other vital information, invoking a federal law he said allows him to selectively provide intel on the president’s health.

“There are HIPAA rules and regulations that restrict me in sharing certain things for his safety and his own health,” he told the reporters.

The law he’s referring to, HIPAA, is the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of

GUEST COLUMN: Pass the public option for a better healthcare system | Opinion

The Affordable Care Act, signed by President Barack Obama on March 23, 2010, was a monumental accomplishment that protected those with preexisting conditions, expanded preventive care, lowered drug prices, provided small business tax credits, and lowered the rate of uninsured Americans by 40%, from 44 million to 27 million people.

Despite those gains, over 27 million Americans remain uninsured and an additional 56 million Americans remain underinsured. I want to be clear: health care should be a right of all Americans, not a privilege reserved for a few.

I believe that every American deserves basic health care coverage and access to a quality provider network in their community. Twenty-one countries guarantee 100% health care coverage for their citizenry. The United States of America has less than 92% coverage through either a publicly provided option – Medicare, Medicaid, SCHIP, VHA, or IHS, or a private plan provided through an employer. Over

For context, startups use SPACs as an avenue to the public market for a few reasons: These deals are often quicker due to a streamlined negotiation process and can be safer during periods of market volatility—which we’re seeing amid the pandemic—because they’re not contingent

The previous emergency order was set to expire Oct. 9, but was extended as the District remains in Phase 2.

WASHINGTON — Mayor Muriel Bowser announced Wednesday that the District’s Public Health Emergency order has been extended until Dec. 31, 2020. The previous emergency order was set to expire Oct. 9 but was extended as the District remains in Phase 2 of reopening.

The emergency order should not be confused with a stay-at-home order.

Currently, in Phase 2, telework is still encouraged within the District, and mass gatherings are permitted up to 50 people. Certain activities, like churches, are allowed to increase that number if requested and approved from a waiver.

A number of restrictions still remain in place in order to slow the spread of the virus.

Politics, not public good, will guide what we know about Trump’s health

October 8, 2020

| Health Facts

The 25th Amendment to the Constitution, which was adopted in 1967, sought to address the latter question. It spells out how a president can voluntarily and temporarily transfer power to the vice president. It also allows for the Cabinet to remove a president who is unwilling to cede power, though it sets a very high bar in such a case: a two-thirds vote of both houses of Congress. For this reason, as well as the political damage that can be done by appearing ill or weak, presidents are reluctant to share personal medical information in the midst of a health crisis.

The origins of the amendment lie partially in the experience of President Dwight “Ike” Eisenhower, whose frequent illnesses while in office were artfully hidden from the public by his doctors and by Eisenhower himself. Even as Eisenhower endured three serious health crises in office, the public was given only
