COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — South Carolina’s education superintendent said she has sent $43 million of protective equipment to more than 1,300 schools in the state — fulfilling every item in their requests to help them open for in-person classes during the COVID-19 pandemic.

And Superintendent Molly Spearman promised Tuesday there is enough money left in the billions of dollars the federal government sent to South Carolina for pandemic help to pay for whatever else schools ask for as she urges every school district to get children back in classrooms at least part of the time.

“You may hear some of them saying we need more things. We are telling them, let us know what you need. We have the funding to get it for you,” Spearman said.

The latest purchases include 300,000 sheets of Plexiglass, which Spearman cited health experts who have told her when combined with masks cut the

Dr. William B. Applegate and Dr. Christopher C. Colenda: A broken system and broken promises on health care | Columnists

Many of Trump’s allies and supporters have disingenuously tried to praise the job our current president has done. It is hard for us to fathom that our older patients can accept these assertions given the overwhelming evidence to the contrary. Others will attribute these sad events to “misfortune” or “bad luck.” Our interpretation is that these events, particularly for older voters who supported the current leadership, are an unprecedented betrayal.

Promises kept? On health care, Trump’s claims of ‘monumental steps’ don’t add up

| Health Benefits

In a last-ditch effort to raise his approval rating on an issue on which he trails Democrat Joe Biden in most polls, Trump on Thursday, Sept. 24, unveiled his “America First Healthcare Plan,” which includes a number of promises with no details and pumps some minor achievements into what the administration calls “monumental steps to improve the efficiency and quality of healthcare in the United States.”

As the election nears, here is a brief breakdown of what Trump has done — and has not done — on some key health issues.

Affordable Care Act

Trump has not managed to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act, despite his claims that the law is dead.

But his administration, and Republicans in Congress, have made changes to weaken the law while not dramatically affecting enrollment in marketplace plans.

Congress failed to rewrite the law in summer 2017, but Republicans who controlled both

Promises kept? On health care, Trump’s claims of ‘monumental steps’ don’t add up | Washington

When it comes to health care, President Donald Trump has promised far more than he has delivered. But that doesn’t mean his administration has had no impact on health issues — including the operation of the Affordable Care Act, prescription drug prices and women’s access to reproductive health services.

In a last-ditch effort to raise his approval rating on an issue on which he trails Democrat Joe Biden in most polls, Trump on Thursday unveiled his “America First Healthcare Plan,” which includes a number of promises with no details and pumps some minor achievements into what the administration calls “monumental steps to improve the efficiency and quality of healthcare in the United States.”

As the election nears, here is a brief breakdown of what Trump has done — and has not done — on some key health issues.

Trump’s Vax Promises Unrealistic, Liberals Charge

A Democratic senator and advocates at the left-leaning Center for American Progress (CAP) argued that the Trump administration is ill prepared to produce and deliver a vaccine in line with the president’s timeline, during a call with reporters on Thursday afternoon.

President Trump has pledged that all Americans will have a vaccine by April.

Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.), ranking member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, said she has been calling for a comprehensive national plan to distribute a vaccine for months, but the administration has offered only “a few fragmented puzzle pieces.”

She said that while she was pleased to receive a plan, the HHS blueprint lacks answers to critical questions such as how to serve vaccines at low temperatures, how to scale up the work force to ensure there are enough professionals to administer the vaccine, and how to ensure that the vaccine will be

President Donald Trump will lay out his vision for health care in the coming two weeks, the White House claims, after blowing through a number of self-imposed deadlines to produce a long-promised plan to replace the Affordable Care Act.

“The President in the next week or so will be laying out his vision for health care. Some of that has already been put out there — telemedicine and lowering the cost of drugs … and protecting pre-existing conditions. But the President will be laying out some additional health care steps in the coming, I would say, two weeks,” White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany said on Tuesday when asked if the President’s health care plan exists.

Vice President Mike Pence told CBS News Tuesday that Trump’s health care plan will include taking executive action to guarantee Americans with pre-existing conditions must be covered by health

Trump promises to preserve Obamacare protections he’s trying to eliminate

September 27, 2020

| Health Current Events

President Trump announced Thursday that he would seek to guarantee health care coverage for Americans with preexisting conditions, a protection that is already part of the Affordable Care Act his administration is seeking to repeal.

“The historic action I’m taking today includes the first-ever executive order to affirm it is the official policy of the United States government to protect patients with preexisting conditions,” Trump said at an event in Charlotte, N.C., where he signed an executive order that he claimed would improve health care in the U.S.

Under the ACA, which was passed under former President Barack Obama, Americans with preexisting health conditions cannot be denied health coverage by insurers. Trump’s new executive order, meanwhile, amounts to a pledge and comes after he has repeatedly attempted to gut current health care law.

On a call earlier in the day, White House officials said that Trump’s “protections” for preexisting conditions
