New Analysis Shows Contract Pharmacies Financially Gain From 340B Program With No Clear Benefit to Patients

PR Newswire

WASHINGTON, Oct. 8, 2020

WASHINGTON, Oct. 8, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — Today, the Berkeley Research Group (BRG) published an analysis of historical trends in 340B contract pharmacy arrangements. The findings conclude that the growth in the number of these arrangements is fueling explosive growth in the program at large and driving the 340B program farther and farther away from its original intended goal of providing discounted medicines to safety-net entities treating uninsured and vulnerable patients.

The government has set aside only $46.5m over four years to support capacity-building in Aboriginal community-controlled organisations to meet targets set out in the new Closing the Gap agreement.

But a decision to allocate $39.8m of extra funding to a non-Indigenous sports-based initiative for boys has drawn the ire of Labor.

The Clontarf Foundation has been awarded the sum over four years from 2020 to

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) — The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office announced Tuesday a “Health of the Force” initiative to assist in both the physical and mental well-being of its deputies.

Here’s the full news release announcing the program, from Sgt. Jayson Janes:

In 2019, 228 law enforcement officers in the United States took their own lives.  The profession of law enforcement is, per the metrics, one of the most potentially dangerous and traumatizing careers in the country. https://www.officer.com/command-hq/supplies-services/public-awareness/news/21119956/report-228-us-law-enforcement-officers-died-by-suicide-in-2019

“The law enforcement profession is stressful on our deputy sheriffs, and their families. I work with great teammates. We want to do all we can to improve and take care of them and their families in order to ensure successful careers in providing excellent public safety and customer service.  This enhanced Health of the Force program will provide additional tools and resources for deputies to care for their physical, mental, and spiritual well-being.”

The rooftop garden at the University of Vermont Medical Center is an unexpected oasis on top of a concrete and steel structure. On a late September morning, within view of the hospital’s grand entrance, bees buzzed among bright-blue borage flowers and scarlet bee balm. Sunlight shone through translucent crimson Swiss chard stems. A raised bed of Savoy cabbages bloomed like giant green roses.

“I feel like a Cabbage Patch Kid is going to pop out of one,” said Lisa Hoare, the medical center’s garden educator, laughing. She had been weeding while waiting to start the final meeting of the inaugural eight-week Gardening for Health program.

A blackboard on the garden shed wall read,

Lurie Children’s Hospital has launched a home food delivery program for patients who might otherwise go hungry.

The hospital received a $150,000 grant from the Cigna Foundation to provide “reliable access to healthy food for over 100 families.”

The program expands on an earlier hospital’s initiative to address food insecurity; two years ago, the hospital opened Chicago’s first onsite food pantry in a pediatric clinic.

“Food insecurity is a significant barrier to children’s health,” said Dr. Adam Becker, executive director of childhood obesity prevention program Consortium to Lower Obesity in Chicago Children, was quoted as saying in a hospital news release. “We hope to reduce the burden on vulnerable families, especially those who are caring for children with medical complexity.”

Mary Kate Daly, vice president of Lurie Children’s Patrick M. Magoon Institute for Healthy Communities, said the grant will pay not only for food, but also for social workers and

| Community Health

PARSIPPANY, NJ—The Mt. Tabor Garden Club is teaming up with Parsippany’s mayor and local scholars and ecologists to present “Forest Health: A Virtual Citizen Science Program,” on Monday, Oct. 6 at 7 p.m.

“Learn from a study documenting nearly 300 forests in Northern New Jersey how forest understories have changed since the mid-20th Century,” the club said, in an announcement. The program will also cover “the impact of deer and invasive plants on our natural surroundings, evidence-based strategies to address reforestation and ways to raise the awareness of the public on forest stewardship.”

According to National Geographic, forests cover about 30 percent of the world’s land mass. Between 1990 and 2016, the World Bank said a half million square miles—an area bigger than South Africa—of forest were lost.

Parsippany Mayor Michael Soriano will make opening remarks on citizen science outreach. Jay Kelly, Associate Professor of Biology and Environmental Science at
