Local Health Plan Hosts Pink Stops in Breast Cancer Awareness Month Event

PR Newswire

RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif., Oct. 13, 2020

RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif., Oct. 13, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — Even in the face of COVID-19, the Inland Empire will continue Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, thanks to the American Cancer Society-Inland Empire.  To raise funds for breast cancer research, the organization has reimagined their annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5k event, transforming it into a socially safe Pink & Go Seek scavenger hunt. In support of this event, on October 17, Inland Empire Health Plan (IEHP) will provide a $2,500 sponsorship and will host three Scavenger “Pink Stops” in the Inland Empire.

IEHP was a proud sponsor and participant at last year's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Event and is thrilled to continue participation at this year's reimagined and socially safe Pink & Go Seek scavenger hunt.

Debate Watchers Are Convinced Mike Pence Has Pink Eye

October 8, 2020

| Health

There was quite a bit to unpack during Wednesday night’s Vice-Presidential debate—one that has gained more significance in recent days following President Donald Trump’s COVID-19 diagnosis. However, while many focused on what both Mike Pence and Kamala Harris had to say, something else  (besides a fly landing on his head) took center stage when it came to the Vice-President—his left eye.

As Pence took his turn to speak at various points—or interrupted Harris during her time—several debate watchers took notice that his left eye appeared to be red, and led many to wonder what was going on.

It also became a concern as many wondered if the Vice-President was suffering from Conjunctivitis—also known as Pink Eye—which can be a symptom of a COVID-19 infection. According to the Journal of Medical Virology, 1.1% of people who had COVID-19 also developed conjunctivitis, with an additional 3.3% of those being people with

Amid the novel coronavirus pandemic, the In the Loop campaign will replace the yearly In the Pink of Health Luncheon to raise money for Project Mammogram, which helps uninsured people receive free breast cancer screenings and services.

As the primary fundraising event for Project Mammogram, the annual In the Pink of Health Luncheon celebrates survivors, remembers those who are lost and offers a time for everyone to contribute in one way or another. The fundraiser last year was a bustling event lined with pink that featured large gift baskets for bid, a corner shop, an enormous ballroom filled with banquet tables and topped off with a server in a champagne flute dress handing out glasses and posing for photos.

A little over a month ago, Ace, a 2-year-old female Lab mix, was an orphaned pup dropped off at the St. Tammany Parish animal shelter in Lacombe.

Her former owners needed to part ways with the black beauty because she is said to have an issue with seizures, and the family couldn’t afford her care.

Fast forward to October: Ace is still in the shelter, but now she’s also an unorthodox champion for breast cancer awareness.

Like some other shelter pups, has taken on a new role wearing pink accessories to help promote breast cancer awareness as part of the Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center’s annual “Geaux Pink” campaign in October.

When it comes to promoting a cause amid the chaos of COVID-19 and ongoing mandates, it’s all about creativity, said Erica Kelt, director of development for the Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center in Covington, and finding novel ways to
