Tamera Mowry-Housley says that exercising amid the coronavirus pandemic has made her feel so much better — and not just physically.

“Exercise and moving my body really helped me mentally once the pandemic was upon us,” says Mowry-Housley, 42, who is teaming up with Zumba to encourage everyone to make time for a mental and physical break – a Zumba Break – ahead of World Mental Health Day on Saturday.

Explaining that she has been dealing with “a lot of stress and anxiety” during the health crisis, the actress says that staying fit has boosted her mental health.

“When we all had to be quarantined for so long, I really discovered the importance of diving back into exercising now that I had the time,” she tells PEOPLE exclusively.

More than 5 million people around the world die from causes associated with a lack of physical activity. Two research teams at UC San Diego School of Medicine sought to understand sedentary lifestyles, with one study finding that even light physical activity, including just standing, can benefit health, and the other that Americans are still sitting too much.

Stand up, your life may depend on it

It is well-documented that exercise and other moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) reduces the risk of many age-related chronic diseases, such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, numerous cancers, Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. However, in the study published October 12, 2020 in Journals of Gerontology: Medical Sciences, researchers found that just standing still was associated with lower risk for mortality.

Led by Andrea LaCroix, Ph.D., chief of epidemiology at UC San Diego School of Medicine, the research team observed activity

New Delhi [India], October 13 (ANI): Vice President Venkaiah Naidu on Tuesday said physical fitness, mental tenacity, and eating desi (traditional) food helped him overcome the COVID-19 infection.

In a Facebook post, he said, “I firmly believe that in spite of my age and certain medical problems like diabetes, I could overcome COVID-19 infection because of my physical fitness, mental tenacity, regular physical exercise like walking and yoga, apart from eating only desi (traditional) food. I have always preferred to eat desi food and continued the same during my self-isolation period.”

“I am happy to have recovered from COVID-19 with the doctors declaring me negative after RT-PCR test on October 12. I was in home quarantine after I tested positive on September 29th and took all necessary steps to combat the virus as per medical advice,” he said.

Based on his experience, he urged everyone to undertake physical exercise daily–be

MusiCares Launches ‘Wellness in Music’ Survey to Gauge Music Community’s Physical & Mental Health

October 10, 2020

| Health And Wellness

The survey delves into a lot of personal areas, including the respondent’s alcohol, drug, tobacco and marijuana use. It also asks the respondents to reveal their age, gender, marital status, ethnicity, spiritual practice, income level, life satisfaction level, stress and anxiety level, health insurance status, how well they sleep and how often they exercise and meditate. Two areas it does not inquire about: the respondent’s sexual orientation or religious affiliation.

One section of the survey uses the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ)-9 test — a standardized test that helps to screen for depression.

MusiCares stresses that this is a voluntary survey and that all responses are strictly confidential. The survey is limited to those 18 and older and who have been working in the music industry for five or more years.

When the COVID-19 pandemic swept the U.S. in March, MusiCares established the MusiCares COVID-19 Relief Fund to help music people

With athletes trained in resilience, Special Olympics helps members maintain mental and physical fitness through virtual events

Michael Heup, a Special Olympics athlete who has become a leading advocate for people with disabilities, took a deep breath as the torch approached. Heup, who started his Special Olympics career in 2001, has previously competed in soccer, basketball, tennis, snowshoe and other events.

“It’s disappointing that we can’t have large-scale events and gatherings, but we are excited to be back doing what we love,” he said. “Sports!”

His teammate behind him threw his fist in the air.

The small gathering stood in stark contrast to the boisterous crowd of thousands of athletes and law enforcement officials who have rallied around the torch lighting each year.

For 50 years, Special Olympics Maryland has fostered community for thousands of people with disabilities. Weekly trainings and annual tournaments have provided opportunities for connection and purpose, inspiring confidence among people historically subjected to social ostracism.

But when the pandemic took hold in March,

What’s your definition of fitness? For me, in the past 15 years of my career, I’ve learned so much about what fitness is and what the word means. Most importantly, I’ve learned how to use fitness as a tool to improve my mental strength.

Despite it being a passion of mine, I’ve found that just talking about mental health wasn’t making much of a change. Sharing an open approach to mental health is essential to recovery and opening up about your experiences, but so is building your resilience.

Having worked in the emergency services, I’ve had the unfortunate experience of being present in the aftermath of over 50 suicides. Each and the all

Chronic pain is a common and serious medical condition affecting an estimated 100 million people in the United States, which correlates with annual costs of approximately $635 billion. In the 1990s, opioids were increasingly prescribed to manage chronic pain, and this practice contributed to the opioid epidemic of the 21st century. To combat this epidemic, multidisciplinary approaches to chronic pain management are being researched and implemented.

A small-scale study was conducted in a semi-rural population in Oregon where issues of affordability, addiction and access to care are common. A total of 28 participants aged 34 to 77 years who reported having chronic pain for at least one year were recruited from a community-based teaching hospital in Corvallis, Oregon for a pre-post study.

Study participants received 8 weeks of instruction in a mindfulness-based stress reduction program (MBSR) in 2.5-hour weekly sessions

EMIT’S CROSSING, Colo., Sept. 30, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — Fueled by rage over a nasty break-up, Ashley Bancroft channeled her anger into what has quickly become an online movement of individuals getting into the best shape of their lives with frustration as the motivation. Outrage Nation Fitness is Bancroft’s brainchild, conceived after she realized she was in top physical shape as the result of rage-infused workouts to alleviate feelings of anger.

“It didn’t take long for me to figure out that working out while I was feeling angry was at least three times as effective as a normal workout,” said Bancroft. “My friends and family were shocked and wanted to learn my secret. What started as the embers of a small community has grown into a roaring firestorm of sweat and hellfire.”

A crucial element of Outrage Nation Fitness is the private online community of scorned individuals who need to vent.
