| Health Article

A Trump administration official leading the response to the coronavirus pandemic says the U.S. can expect delivery of a vaccine starting in January 2021, despite statements from the president that inoculations could begin this month.

And a growing, bipartisan chorus of lawmakers, experts and public health officials says the country is ill prepared for a projected winter surge of COVID-19.

Dr. Robert Kadlec said in an email Friday that the administration “is accelerating production of safe and effective vaccines … to ensure delivery starting January 2021.” Kadlec is the Department of Health and Human Services’ assistant secretary of preparedness and response. HHS says a vaccine could be approved before the end of the year but will take time to distribute.

President Donald Trump has said at rallies, debates and press conferences that a vaccine could arrive within weeks. “We think we can start sometime in October,” Trump said at a

Senior Official Explains VP’s Health After Mysterious Case At Debate

October 8, 2020

A flurry of speculation has surrounded the health of Vice President Mike Pence after he appeared to have pink eye at Wednesday’s debate with Sen. Kamala Harris. A senior Trump administration official told Politico that Pence likely suffered from a broken blood vessel, rather than a pink eye infection.

Pence’s eye problem, as well as a fly that settled on his head, drew attention on social media.

Dr. Daniel Volland, an optometrist based in Seattle, also diagnosed Pence with a broken blood vessel.

“Eye doctor, here! Temporal Subconjunctival Hemorrhage OS is my diagnosis; it’s a broken blood vessel, not infectious,” Volland tweeted.

Although some debate viewers thought Pence’s eye could be a symptom of COVID-19, the vice president tested negative for the virus prior to the event. Pink eye is a rare symptom of a COVID-19 infection.

“The number of COVID-19 patients that have been reported to have eye symptoms

Dallas County reports 205 more confirmed coronavirus cases as health official says numbers in area hospitals ‘disturbing’

October 7, 2020

| Health Facts

Dallas County reported 205 more confirmed coronavirus cases Tuesday, all of which the county considers new. One new COVID-19 death was also reported.

Labs either report coronavirus cases directly to the county health department or to the state health department, which then relays the information to individual counties. Of cases reported Tuesday, Dallas County health officials said 132 came from the state’s reporting system, including 33 from September and 99 from October. The remaining 73 cases were reported directly to the county health department.

The latest victim was a Dallas man in his 50s. He did not have underlying health problems.

Additionally, the county added 41 new probable cases to the newly reported cases Tuesday. Probable cases and deaths include people who had a positive antigen test (sometimes called rapid tests); had antibodies for the virus; or had COVID-19 symptoms and contact with someone who tested positive for the virus.

The novel coronavirus may have infected about one in 10 people globally, meaning the majority of the world remains vulnerable to Covid-19, a World Health Organization official has said.

“Our current best estimates tell us that about 10% of the global population may have been infected by this virus,” Dr. Mike Ryan, director of the WHO’s Health Emergencies Programme, said at a WHO executive board meeting Monday.

“This varies depending on country, it varies from urban to rural, it varies between different groups. But what it does mean is that the vast majority of the world remains at risk,” Ryan added.

There are more than 35.5 million confirmed Covid-19

President Trump is “doing very well” and has no difficulty breathing, his medical team said Saturday — although a senior administration official warned that the next 48 hours will be “critical.”

White House physician Dr. Sean Conley and other members of the medical team briefed reporters on Trump’s condition. Conley said they were “extremely happy with the progress” Trump is making.

TRUMP TRANSFERRED TO WALTER REED ‘OUT OF AN ABUNDANCE OF CAUTION’ AFTER TESTING POSITIVE FOR CORONAVIRUS

“This morning, the president is doing very well,” he said.

However, a senior administration official told Fox News that on Friday morning, Trump was showing troubling signs of a possible progression from mild to more severe form of the disease.

The official said that medical professionals moved quickly and decided to transfer the President to Walter Reed out of an abundance of caution over what was seen as a very concerning trajectory of

Doctor, WH Official Offer Contradicting Reports On Trump’s Health

October 3, 2020
| Good Health

WASHINGTON — White House doctor Sean Conley walked back comments made at a news briefing outside of Walter Reed Medical Center on Saturday, during which he said President Donald Trump is doing well 72 hours into his COVID-19 diagnosis.

Speaking to reporters earlier in the day, Conley said the president had been fever-free for 24 hours and was having no difficulty breathing or walking around. Conley also said Trump was in “exceptionally good spirits.”

Conley’s rosy outlook on the president’s health contradicts an account included in a White House pool report Saturday in which an anonymous source “familiar with the president’s health” said, “The president’s vitals over the last 24 hours were very concerning and the next 48 hours will be critical in terms of his care. We are still not on a clear path to a full recovery.”

According to The Associated Press, Trump chief of staff Mark Meadows

Allowing the coronavirus to circulate through the U.S. population unchecked in an effort to achieve herd immunity “is not the strategy” of the nation’s government despite reports that White House coronavirus advisor Dr. Scott Atlas has pushed the idea, Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar said.

“Herd immunity is not the strategy of the U.S. government with regard to coronavirus,” Azar in response to a question from Rep. Jamie Raskin, D-Md., on Friday during a U.S. House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis hearing.

“We may get herd slowing of transmission as we perhaps have seen in the New York area and other concentrated areas. Our mission is to reduce fatalities, protect the vulnerable, keep coronavirus cases down to the lowest level possible,” Azar added.

Hiawatha police: Impostor impersonating health official tried to get people to go with him – News – The Topeka Capital-Journal

September 30, 2020

| Dept Of Health

Two Hiawatha residents reported separately that a stranger, who turned out to be falsely impersonating a health official, tried to get them to go with him Tuesday, Hiawatha Police Chief John A. Defore said Wednesday on his department’s Facebook site.

In both incidents, the man was turned away and left the area, Defore said. His office was investigating but had made no arrests.

Defore said a woman who lives in the 400 block of Oregon reported Tuesday evening that an unknown man between 3 and 4 p.m. Tuesday had knocked on her door and, after she answered, told her he was from the Brown County Health Department.

The man told the woman she had been exposed to COVID-19 and needed to come with him to a hospital to get tested, the woman said.

She said she asked the man if that was mandatory and he said “No, but it is
