CAROLINE COUNTY, VA — The Rappahannock Area Health District is planning a “public health emergency” exercise on Wednesday when it will be offering free flu shots from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Wright’s Chapel UMC in Ruther Glen. All safety precautions will be observed during the drive-thru event, the health district said.

At the event, the health district will offer free quadrivalent flu vaccines, which cover four types of flu, to residents ages 9 and up. Vaccine supplies are limited and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis until the end time of the event, or until the supply of flu vaccine runs out. Num Samkhan and Nat Poung are two of the thousands of migrant workers who returned to Cambodia from Thailand because of COVID-19. Even though they are healthy and safely living with family, the months since their return have been stressful.

“I worry about not earning money to support my family,” Samkhan told Dr Yel Daravuth, Technical Officer at the World Health Organization (WHO), when asked about how COVID-19 has impacted his mental health. “I haven’t worked yet
since coming back from Thailand.”

Similarly, Poung has not been able to make a living since returning to Cambodia in May. Without a source of income, she has felt depressed and even thought about suicide. Receiving mental health support has been a crucial lifeline for her.

“When village health support groups visited to ask and talk about my mental problems and provided some solutions to make me feel better, I could smile,” said

White House Rejects CDC Offer for Help with Contact Tracing After Outbreak: Reports

Jabin Botsford/The Washington Post via Getty Images Judge Amy Coney Barrett (at podium) speaks in the Rose Garden of the White House on Sept. 26, 2020, as President Donald Trump announces her nomination for associate justice of the Supreme Court.

The White House reportedly turned down an offer from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to assist with contact tracing following a Sept. 26 event for Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett, despite more than 10 guests there — including President Donald Trump — all testing positive for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

Contact tracing is a “fundamental” step in identifying “who may have been infected through exposure to” a COVID-19 patient, federal health experts say.

“This process prevents further transmission of disease by separating people who have (or may have) an infectious disease from people who do not,” according to the CDC, the country’s leading health agency. “It is

Tidelands’ virtual fitness classes offer members at-home workout option | Myrtle Beach Area News

| Health And Fitness

PAWLEYS ISLAND — When Tidelands Health surveyed its fitness members, they learned quickly several of their members didn’t want to come back due to COVID-19 concerns.

“We wanted to be able to reach them,” said Kim Vanlandingham, manager of Tidelands HealthPoint Center for Health and Fitness.

HealthPoint has in-person classes in Pawleys Island, which is where Tidelands does its streaming.

“There’s a lot of risk emotionally and physically associated with just being sedentary. So we wanted to make sure everybody was staying with their exercise program,” Vanlandingham continued.

That’s when Tidelands Health expedited pre-COVID plans to stream fitness classes online.

In September, it launched virtual membership for classes such as Zumba, pilates and yoga through a live-streamed format. For $15 per month, members can get their fitness classes in, from the comfort of their own home.

“In general, our facility has a strong social connection with our members,” Vanlandingham said.
