Newt Gingrich: Trump and public health system have saved 2 million lives in coronavirus pandemic

October 14, 2020
| Health Current Events

In the first two debates of the 2020 general election presidential contest, former Vice President Joe Biden and Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., have claimed that President Trump is personally responsible for the now more than 215,000 Americans who have perished from COVID-19.

This is factually wrong, disingenuous, immoral, and disrespectful to the hundreds of thousands of Americans who are working every day to defeat the coronavirus and save lives. It completely ignores the real, successful Trump administration efforts to save lives.

It glosses over the Democratic leaders who have presided over the most devastating losses — New York and New Jersey combined account for nearly one-quarter (23 percent) of all American deaths, according to Tuesday’s U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention figures. Finally, it only serves to sow more fear and discord among Americans.

Dr. Jeffrey Gold, UNMC’s chancellor, said the center will be the “linchpin” of many of the education and training activities that will take place at UNMC over the next half-century.

”This facility — and the professionals and technology within it — have been and will continue to be life-changing for the health professionals who train here,” he said.

The center includes plenty of technology, from the holographic images lining the entryway to the three-story SONY Infinity Wall, the largest display of its kind in the Western Hemisphere, in the atrium. It also features a holographic theater, touted as the first in an academic institution, and Laser CAVE-5, a five-sided fully immersive virtual reality suite.

| Dept Of Health

On October 13, the Department of Defense (DOD), on behalf of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), awarded an Other Transaction Agreement to Cue Health Inc., San Diego, California, to expand U.S. production capacity of point-of-care COVID-19 tests.

This industrial base expansion effort will allow Cue Health to increase production to 100,000 COVID-19 test kits per day by March 2021, and demonstrate this capacity through the delivery of six million COVID-19 tests to the U.S. Government to support the domestic COVID-19 response. The Cue COVID-19 Test is a molecular test that detects the ribonucleic acid (RNA) of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, in about 20 minutes using a nasal swab sample taken from the lower part of the nose using the Cue Sample Wand.

Cue’s COVID-19 Test runs on the compact and portable Cue Health Monitoring System and a single-use COVID-19 test kit includes a COVID-19

A $50 million pledge from billionaire hedge-fund manager Ray Dalio’s Dalio Philanthropies is funding a new center for health justice at NewYork-Presbyterian, the hospital announced on Tuesday.

The new Dalio Center for Health Justice will “address health disparities and health justice through research, education, advocacy and investment in communities,” according to a press release. One of its top priorities will be to focus on reducing disparities that disproportionately affect communities of color.

“Our goal is to contribute to equal healthcare and equal education because we believe that these are the most fundamental building blocks of equal opportunity and a just society,” Dalio said in the statement. “We know that these don’t adequately exist, and we are excited to have a great partner in NewYork-Presbyterian, who we are confident will find ways

| Community Health

(Reuters) – The U.S. government has awarded diagnostic testing company Cue Health Inc $481 million to scale up the production of rapid COVID-19 molecular test, the Department of Health and Human Services said on Tuesday.

The company will raise the domestic production of COVID-19 test kits to 100,000 per day by March 2021 under the deal and deliver 6 million tests and 30,000 instruments to the government to support its response to the pandemic, the health agency said.

The point-of-care test can detect the novel coronavirus in about 20 minutes with nasal swab samples collected using a Sample Wand from the lower part of the nose, the HHS said.

The system also allows results to be sent to a mobile phone via an app.

The company’s test kit was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in June for emergency use in patient care settings under the supervision
