NASCAR community defends Alex Bowman after media member mocks his anxiety

October 13, 2020

| Community Health

Alex Bowman told his crew he was feeling unwell during Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series playoff race with a spot in the next playoff round in jeopardy.

For most spectators, it was not only understandable for Bowman to have anxiety, but also admirable he was open to sharing it.

One prominent NASCAR media member, though, decided Bowman’s mental health should be joked about. He created an #AnxietyAlex hashtag on Twitter. Each of the three times he used the nickname, the backlash from the racing community grew stronger.

Jim Utter, an editor for Motorsports.com, blocked a wave of critics to his remarks from accessing his account but has left up the tweets for several hours after posting. Utter has more than 60,000 followers on Twitter.

BEDFORD, MA — Bedford School officials have learned from the local health department that a ‘community member’ at John Glenn Middle School has tested positive for the coronavirus, district superintendent Phillip Conrad announced in a message to district families on Wednesday.

The alert did not specify whether the person who had tested positive is a student or staff member, but said the district received word of the positive test from the Bedford Board of Health.

September 29, 2020

| Better Health

Tell me about your work with The Grand Rapids African American Health Institute (GRAAHI).

I have been a board member for the past 12 years. In fact, according to the governance rules, I have outstayed my appointment by two terms. I have also been President of the Board for two terms after the late Honorable Judge Ben Logan became ill several years ago and could not continue to fulfill the responsibilities. I have been present for three executive directors, the latest being Micah Foster.

How has ?OVID-19 affected Black Americans in West Michigan?

I think that there are three groups to consider…

One, those individuals who have been infected and have survived. Two, those who have been infected and have died. And those who remain asymptomatic and infected, mildly symptomatic and infected, and asymptomatic and infected…

The infectivity rates are higher because of living circumstances and social gatherings. There is
