Num Samkhan and Nat Poung are two of the thousands of migrant workers who returned to Cambodia from Thailand because of COVID-19. Even though they are healthy and safely living with family, the months since their return have been stressful.

“I worry about not earning money to support my family,” Samkhan told Dr Yel Daravuth, Technical Officer at the World Health Organization (WHO), when asked about how COVID-19 has impacted his mental health. “I haven’t worked yet
since coming back from Thailand.”

Similarly, Poung has not been able to make a living since returning to Cambodia in May. Without a source of income, she has felt depressed and even thought about suicide. Receiving mental health support has been a crucial lifeline for her.

Mental Health Workers To Join Pinellas Sheriff’s Office

PINELLAS COUNTY, FL — The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office is now seeking applications for crisis response specialists to work with the sheriff’s mental health unit.

Last month, Sheriff Bob Gualtieri announced plans to expand the sheriff’s office mental health unit to better respond to people in crisis in need of mental health services, not jail time.

Those applying must have a bachelor’s or master’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling or a related field and have experience in case management, social work and substance abuse. Salaries would start at $45,800 a year.

The sheriff’s office formed its mental health unit in late 2016 consisting of two teams that include a deputy and social worker.

Gualtieri said he’s expanding the team to six deputies, six mental health workers and a clinical supervisor.

Many times, said Gualtieri, those perceived as violent or uncooperative are people experiencing a mental health crisis or drug

UF Health Rehabilitation-Wildlight has 36,000 square feet of space, including a 25,000-square-foot YMCA; physical and occupational therapy and speech-language pathology; and a healthy-living center. A 15,000 square-foot expansion is planned for specialty rehabilitation services.

Bees join the workforce at Carilion with “Bee Healthy” Apiary

CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. (WDBJ) – Carilion New River Valley Medical Center has some new employees ‘buzzing’ to get to work. Beekeeping has become one of the medical center’s newest green practices at its first ever Bee Healthy Apiary.

“Their job is to collect nectar and pollen, which indirectly impacts the environment by providing pollination for all the flowering, fruit, and trees — and the food that we eat,” said Daniel Kolasa.

Daniel Kolasa is a radiographer-turned-beekeeper. He is gearing up to show how these bees’ help is part of the Bee Healthy initiative.

“The importance of having a bee apiary here on the property was because Carilion is in the business of taking care of patients and this indirectly helps patients,” said Kolasa.
