“You can’t kneecap your own society and think you’re going to successfully handle a pandemic,” Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis told Fox News’ “Life, Liberty & Levin” in an interview airing Sunday night.
The Republican DeSantis has been harshly criticized by the mainstream media for his handling of COVID-19. The governor declined to issue a statewide face mask mandate and lifted restrictions on bars and movie theaters in early June. Last month, DeSantis lifted all state capacity restrictions on bars and restaurants.
“What we did, Mark, was really three things,” DeSantis told host Mark Levin. “One is protect those who are the most vulnerable to the disease, which is our elderly population, and focus that protection there rather than trying to suppress society as a whole. Second thing is, we want to make sure that our hospital system had what they needed in terms of PPE, medication, testing, and we were
WAYNE COUNTY, Mich. – Wayne County issued a new emergency order Friday that clarifies four of Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s coronavirus (COVID-19) restrictions will remain in effect.
Executive Warren Evans issued the order to clear up confusion after the Michigan Supreme Court ruled Whitmer didn’t have the authority to issue emergency orders without approval from the state legislature.

In response, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services issued a new order requiring masks, restricting gatherings and limiting some businesses in the state. Several counties have issued their own regulations since the Supreme Court’s ruling.
Wayne County announced Whitmer’s orders are in effect now until at least Oct. 23. Specifically, these four rules were highlighted:
Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is spending his fifth day in the hospital after contracting COVID-19, but he’s in good spirits and under good care, a source with knowledge of the situation confirmed to NJ Advance Media.
Christie’s exact condition remains unknown. The 58-year-old has not tweeted since Saturday, the day he announced he tested positive for the coronavirus and checked himself into Morristown Medical Center.
Christie’s stay is currently in line with an average COVID-19 hospitalization. Five days is the median length of hospital stays for coronavirus patients outside of China, according to an analysis of 52 studies published last month in BMC Medicine.
Meanwhile, the source, who asked for anonymity to speak candidly about the matter, shot down a rumor that bounced around social media Wednesday morning that Christie was on a ventilator.

COLUMBUS – President Donald Trump’s recent COVID-19 diagnosis proves frequent testing isn’t a substitute for wearing a mask, Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine said Tuesday.
“I wish the president would wear the mask more,” DeWine told reporters. “I wish he’d wear it all the time when he was in public. I said that before he had the coronavirus.”
Trump revealed early Friday that he tested positive for COVID-19 and then spent three days at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. He returned to the White House Monday, tweeting “Don’t be afraid of Covid. Don’t let it dominate your life.”
DeWine said Ohioans should not be afraid of the virus, but they should not discount it either.
“Even the leader of our great country can get the virus,” DeWine said. “It can happen to anyone. No one is immune.”

MADISON, WI — Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers and state health officials issued a new statewide order Tuesday capping gatherings at indoor public spaces such as stores, bars and restaurants at 25 percent capacity.
Evers directed Department of Health Services Secretary-designee Andrea Palm to issue Emergency Order No. 3 limiting public gatherings to no more than 25 percent of a room or building’s total occupancy.
The order goes into effect at 8 a.m. Thursday and ends Nov. 6. It applies to any gatherings at locations that are open to the public such as stores, restaurants and other businesses that allow public entry, as well as spaces with ticketed events.
“We’re in a crisis right now and need to immediately change our behavior to save lives,” Evers said in a news release. “We are continuing to experience a surge in cases, and many of our hospitals are overwhelmed, and I believe limiting
Ohio Republican Gov. Mike DeWine and Lt. Gov. Jon Husted have issued a proclamation declaring Sunday, Oct. 4 a ‘Day of Prayer’ for President Trump and first lady Melania Trump, who both recently tested positive for the COVID-19.
DeWine said in the order that Ohioans have “long turned to prayer during difficult and trying times as a source of strength and comfort.” He also said the special day was aimed at all those suffering from or impacted by the disease.

The new Supreme Court will consider key cases that could take away Minnesotans’ health care coverage and threatens the right to abortion.
St. Paul, MN— The recent vacancy on the U.S. Supreme Court puts Minnesotans’ health care and reproductive rights in jeopardy. Today Senator Tina Smith, Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan, and leaders from Planned Parenthood and the ACLU had a discussion about the risks to Minnesotans if the Affordable Care Act or Roe v. Wade are overturned by the Supreme Court.
“Judge Barrett’s record of opposing the Affordable Care Act and Roe v. Wade demonstrates that she is not qualified to safeguard our constitutional rights and liberties as a member of our nation’s highest court,” said Senator Tina Smith. “Minnesotans are now facing a very real possibility of losing health care and reproductive rights. At a time when our country is grappling with entrenched health disparities and a pandemic, we

ATLANTA — Editor’s Note: The video in this story is from Kemp’s previous executive order on nursing home visitation.
Georgia Governor Brian Kemp has again extended COVID-19 restrictions and the public health state of emergency.
In a new executive order signed Wednesday, Kemp extended all current COVID-19 restrictions until 11:59 p.m. on October 15.
The public health state of emergency is extended until November 9.
There are two minor changes made in his latest order, which include allowing workers at restaurants and bars to return to work once they have been symptom-free for 24 following a confirmed positive or suspected COVID-19 case.
ACT/SAT test score deadlines have also been extended for HOPE and Zell scholarship eligibility.
Kemp first declared a public health state of emergency on March 14, and it has been continuously extended since then.
In March, he said the point of the emergency declaration was to “allow the
