‘SNL’ inspired gala benefits Special Olympics

Join Special Olympics Illinois for a night of laughter from your couch. The Saturday Night In Virtual Gala will bring “Saturday Night Live” inspired humor to Special Olympics Illinois.

Usually, hundreds of attendees gather in Chicago for an extravagant black-tie event to support the athletes of Special Olympics Illinois. The night will begin at 7:30 p.m. with a live program. Viewers can watch the program online at www.soill.org. The night includes special appearances by The Daily Show’s Jordan Klepper, NBC Chicago’s Patrick Fazio, WXRT’s Lin Brehmer, Olympic Medalist Apolo Ohno and Special Olympics Illinois featured athlete David Harlan.

Join early at 7 p.m. and enjoy musical entertainment from the Bono Bros Band with members of Freddy Jones Band, Tributosaurus, Mr. Blotto and special guest guitarist Fran Banish.

Community: Fran U honors two at virtual gala | Entertainment/Life

Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady University hosted Fête des Fidèles Goes Virtual on Oct. 1 and raised $37,722 in support of student scholarships while also honoring Healthcare Heroes Kristen Gradney and Dr. Catharine O’Neal, who made an impact during the pandemic.

Community: Baton Rouge DAR celebrates member’s 102nd birthday

During the Fête des Fidèles, a French phrase meaning “Feast of the Faithful,” FranU celebrated a tradition of education that has been making a difference in students’ lives for nearly 100 years.

Currently, over 90% of students receive some type of financial aid. Proceeds from the event will support student scholarships to ensure that deserving students have the opportunity to prepare for the health care career that will fulfill their chosen vocation and meet the region’s most critical needs in the future.

Gradney received the Alumni Healthcare Hero Award. She is senior director of operations at Our Lady of the Lake
