CWRU and UH secure $4 million to establish research center focused on lung cancer in East Africa

Researchers with the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center (UHCMC) have secured $4 million in funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH)/National Cancer Institute (NCI) to establish an HIV-associated Malignancy Research Center (HAMRC) focused on lung cancer in East Africa.

The team will collaborate with Ugandan and Tanzanian researchers at the Joint Clinical Research Centre in Kampala, Makerere University Lung Institute, Uganda Cancer Institute, Mulago National Hospital, National Institute for Medical Research (NIMR), Muhumbili National Hospital and the Ocean Road Cancer Institute. The HAMRC will investigate novel approaches to characterize lung cancer epidemiology, somatic mutation burden, HIV and accelerated aging, and radiological features of lung cancer and the relationship to HIV-1 infection.

California launches new ‘health equity metric’ focused on disparities of COVID-19 impact

The first-in-the-nation approach is designed to focus on the disproportionate impact that coronavirus is having on California’s most disadvantaged communities.

SAN DIEGO COUNTY, Calif. — Along with the case rate and testing positivity numbers we have all grown used to in California, for the first time Tuesday, the state also issued a new health equity metric.

The first-in-the-nation approach is designed to focus on the disproportionate impact that coronavirus is having on the county’s most disadvantaged communities.

This new metric looks to focus on the disparities COVID-19 is having on communities of color, motivating counties to invest more resources in those specific communities to reduce the rates of transmission and be able to move more quickly into a less restrictive color tier.

National Alliance purchaser poll found caregiving benefits have tripled since COVID-19

WASHINGTON, Sept. 29, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — Faced with record disruption in healthcare services and the economic downturn, employers are staying the course or accelerating (71% for 2021 and 63% for 2022) their health benefit strategies. Late-stage interventional trials will evaluate personalized approaches to existing care and novel targeted therapies

Endpoint Health, the first targeted therapeutics company focused on integrated solutions for critical illnesses, today announced a new strategic partnership with Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) to create the first precision medicine clinical trial network focused on late-stage clinical trials in critical illness. The network will combine leading critical illness researchers, trialists and premier medical centers from across the country to create a sustained system for conducting phase II and III interventional trials intended to validate precision medicine technologies, therapies, and deployable patient-centric care approaches.
