Novak Djokovic is still in the French Open – but only after a drawn-out struggle in four sets on Wednesday night against Pablo Carreño Busta, the Spaniard who cashed in at the US Open when the world No 1 was disqualified for striking a line official with a spare ball. It was not a joyous reunion.

A month after their shared New York drama, Carreño Busta had notions of winning on his own merits after taking the first set of the second quarter-final on day 11, but Djokovic ignored nagging pain in his upper left arm and his neck as he cobbled together a 4-6, 6-2, 6-3, 6-4 win in 3hr 10min under the lights on

Trump enters ‘uncharted territory,’ returning to White House at fraught moment in his recovery

October 6, 2020

The president returns to the White House at a fraught moment in his recovery — before he has seemingly escaped a period when some patients are known to crash.

“The problem with covid-19 is that people’s condition can deteriorate rapidly, even after days of stability,” said Harlan Krumholz, a cardiologist and health-care researcher at Yale University and Yale New Haven Hospital. “And so we are more accustomed to be cautious with people with high risk.”

The president has received care accessible to few other Americans. He was given a brew of laboratory-made antibodies that fewer than 10 other patients have received outside of clinical trials. And for him, returning home means arriving at a place that can be adapted to cater to his needs, Krumholz and others said.

Jonathan Reiner, a George Washington University Hospital cardiologist, said that in an emergency, the White House medical unit “can do what an

CDC Stresses Vaccines As Newark Enters Flu Season

October 6, 2020

NEWARK, CA — October is here, and though it’s early enough in the season that influenza cases in Newark remain minimal, public health officials are using this time to remind Americans that getting their flu shot this year is more important than ever.

Nationally, just under 45,900 cases have been reported to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Of those cases, 5,762 were reported in California Monday.

This week’s flu numbers come as the country approaches 7.3 million confirmed cases of the coronavirus. With no end in sight to the pandemic, the CDC is also predicting the United States will see anywhere from 39 million to 56 million influenza cases this season.

As the country prepares to weather flu season amid a pandemic, CDC officials say getting the flu vaccine will help curb a potential strain on U.S. health care providers and hospitals.

However, American parents aren’t quite on

No. 1 Clemson Enters Virginia Game in Good Health

October 3, 2020

| Good Health

Clemson coach Dabo Swinney said this week that his team was as healthy as it’s been all season, and he was proud of how they’ve handled themselves in terms of COVID-19 protocols.

That all seems to have paid off for Saturday night. Coming off an open date, No, 1 Clemson doesn’t have any unexpected starters out for the 8 p.m. game against Virginia in Memorial Stadium.

The Tigers will be without defensive ends Xavier Thomas and Justin Foster, which Swinney basically announced earlier in the week. Thomas is still working himself into football shape after a pair of offseason illness and is getting close to returning. Foster, meanwhile, hasn’t been cleared medically this season and is still day-to-day.

Of the 119-man roster, Clemson will also be without OL Kaleb Boateng, LB David Cote, S Peter Cote, WR Hampton Earle, WR Tye Herbstreit, LB Matthew Maloney, TE Luke Price and DT

Montreal, Quebec City and Chaudière-Appalaches move into the red alert level

Quebec Premier François Legault announced Monday that the regions of Montreal, Quebec City and Chaudière-Appalaches are moving into the red alert level, the most critical alert level in the province.

From Oct. 2 to Oct. 28, only people living at the same address can be inside a home at the same time, with an exception for a single caregiver.

Dining rooms in restaurants will be closed, but take-out services will be allowed, and other public spaces like bars, theatres, casinos and cinemas must shut down operations.

Places of worship can operate with a maximum of 25 people. Everyone must stay two metres apart outside and they must where a mask when that is not possible.

“We also need to reduce our contacts everywhere in Quebec,” Legault said. “We cannot wait for the red alert.”
