| Health Education

The University of Detroit Mercy will be adding a 40,000 square foot campus in Novi to offer additional graduate level and health education programs amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The university has acquired the former South University building, located at 41555 W. 12 Mile Road, as community demand for health care graduates increases during the pandemic. The new location will provide access to the institution’s nationally ranked programs for students who wish to stay close to home and their employer.

President Antoine M. Garibaldi said the new campus offers another example of the institution’s bright future as the state and country continue to emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Detroit Mercy’s acquisition of this new campus will allow the university to expand academic programs in the health professions and other fields in which we are strong and that are in demand,” he said. “In addition to this campus’s proximity to several medical

2021 Budget: North East Debt Commission gets zero allocation for capital expenditure
President Muhammadu Buhari presenting the 2021 budget to the National Assembly.

By Gabriel Ewepu – Abuja

A non-governmental organisation working to combat poverty and promote social justice in Nigeria, ActionAid Nigeria, Tuesday, called for upward review of Agriculture, Health, and Education allocations in the 2021 Budget Proposal presented by President Muhammadu Buhari to the National Assembly last Thursday.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Country Director, Ene Obi, where the organization made some observations on the total budget of N13.08tn with an aggregate revenue projection of 7,886tn, which is described as very ambitious. Given that the downward spiral trend of the economy compelled the Federal Government to review the 2020 budget, in which total Federal Government expenditure was revised downwards from N10.594 trillion to N10.523 trillion.

Likewise, key benchmark revenue assumptions were revised downwards. Crude oil price benchmark

How the US Department of Education can protect students and promote equity in higher education

October 13, 2020

| Dept Of Health

Higher education was at a crossroads even before the COVID-19 crisis. In recent years, the cost of college attendance has risen and student debt levels have exploded. Discussions about debt forgiveness and reconfiguring higher education finance have moved out of wonky policy circles and into public discourse. Meanwhile, the costs of college have risen dramatically in recent years, perhaps exacerbated by decreases in state funding, and leading many institutions of higher education (“IHEs”) to provide online and lower-cost solutions to supplement or replace the “traditional” four-year, residential college—a trend that will be accelerated by the COVID-19 crisis. Simultaneously, college demographics have shifted, with an increasing population of “nontraditional” students, including those who are older, lack financial support from parents or other family members, and are more likely to have dependents. Disparities in higher education have had disproportionate, negative, and long-lasting effects on Black and Latino communities. And COVID-19 continues has

American higher education caught in perfect economic storm

October 13, 2020

| Health Education

ANALYSIS/OPINION:

The COVID-19 pandemic has hit America’s colleges and universities like a category 5 hurricane. After a very tough spring and summer, campuses are doing their best to open.

Those that cannot have gone virtual, which has generated demands for refunds of housing, meal plan fees, tuition and other fees. These refunds in combination with COVID-19 related compliance and safety-related expenses and major investments in technology and training to go virtual have just added to the pain. The losses that schools incurred from the spring shutdowns were only partially offset from the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act and additional funding from the federal government is questionable.

The refunds and additional expenses are being compounded with the loss of revenue from international students and students taking a gap year.  Future revenue is likely to be impacted due to projected demographics showing domestic college-bound students down or flat

| Health Education

UDUPI/BENGALURU: With Karnataka reporting Covid19 positive cases upwards of 10000 per day in recent past, the department of health and family welfare will embark on a state-wide health education programme. The campaign aimed at reaching the grassroots level will also use a bouquet of technology at the disposal of the government – social media included, noted Jawaid Akhtar, additional chief secretary to the department on Friday.

Interacting with deputy commissioners, chief executive officers of zilla panchayats and P S Harsha, commissioner, department of information and public relations via video-conference, Akthar said the above programme will be run extensively during October and November. The sharp spiral of Covid19 cases can be checked only with active participation of people, the most important stakeholders and educating them on its need is a must, he said.

Simple practice of wearing a mask in the correct manner, maintaining social distancing, not touching objects needlessly, washing

Voters get final word on a controversial sex education law

October 11, 2020

| Health Education

ARLINGTON — Courtney Normand and Mindie Wirth agree there’s value in teaching sex education in Washington’s public schools.

But the two Snohomish County mothers disagree sharply on a new state law mandating comprehensive sex education in every district’s curriculum in every grade, starting in kindergarten.

It’s propelled them into the spotlight of the impassioned battle over Referendum 90, a statewide ballot measure which gives voters the final say on keeping or repealing the controversial law.

Normand, of Arlington, backs the law, believing it will provide children building blocks for self-awareness by ensuring they receive accurate and age-appropriate information about their bodies, about consent and about relationships.

“We know that this legislation will give our young people the tools they need for a healthy and more equitable future,” said Normand, a mother of two elementary students who is the state director for Planned Parenthood Votes Northwest. She is a spokeswoman for

Health and education spending is at record levels. This budget should have gone further on tax cuts | The Canberra Times

news, federal-politics, simon cowan, centre for independent studies, federal budget, budget 2020, canberra times

The biggest story of the 2020 budget is not, surprisingly, the 12-figure record deficit. It is not the looming trillion dollars in debt. And it is certainly not any supposed unfairness. It’s the loss of a once-in-a-decade chance to shift the economic trajectory of the budget. In normal times, the budget imposes practical limits on government spending. Government can never do everything it wants, because to do so would result in massive deficits, and the public still looks askance at unfunded spending, despite persistent efforts by progressives to undermine this sensible instinct. But in a crisis, different rules apply. Deficits seemingly no longer matter, and governments are free to pursue a broader agenda, for better or worse; as Kevin Rudd did when he found himself unshackled as a result of the Global Financial Crisis. Yet the
