Dolores Cakebread, the co-founder of Cakebread Cellars and one of the matriarchs of Napa Valley’s modern wine industry, died on Oct. 2 of natural causes. She was 90.

With her husband Jack, Cakebread established one of California’s most recognizable wine brands, which helped define the popularity of American Chardonnay in the 1980s. But Cakebread always believed that wine was best understood in the context of good food and warm hospitality. Through her culinary workshops, masterful gardening and health-focused cookbook, she helped establish Napa Valley as not only a destination for wine tasting but also for experiencing its unique lifestyle.

“She always had a smile on her face and was always full of energy,” said her son Dennis Cakebread. “I know she was grateful for the life she lived.”

Dolores Cakebread grew up in Oakland and met her future husband, Jack, while they were both students at Fremont High School. They

Days after news of a federal inmate’s death due to the coronavirus at the Southern Nevada Detention Center in Pahrump, the private company that operates the facility announced a staff member also has died.

CoreCivic, which runs the federal detention center, confirmed the staff member’s death in an emailed response to questions from the Review-Journal on Tuesday. A detention officer died on Sunday “due to potential COVID-19 related issues,” spokesman Ryan Gustin said in the statement.

On Friday, the Nevada federal public defender’s office announced that 29-year-old Brandon Patton, an inmate at the detention center, had died of the coronavirus. The U.S. Marshals Service later confirmed Patton’s death.

Patton was the first known inmate housed in Nevada to die of COVID-19.

The Pahrump facility is the only federal detention center in the state. The Department of Corrections, which operates state prisons, has not had any staff members or prisoners die

| Health Education

Landrieu was the aunt of the former mayor and U.S. Senator and well-known as an advocate for early childhood education.

NEW ORLEANS — Phyllis Landrieu, a former Orleans Parish School Board president and passionate advocate for early childhood education, died Saturday. She was 86.

Mrs. Landrieu’s late husband Joseph was the brother of former New Orleans Mayor Moon Landrieu. The mother of ten children, her nieces and nephews include former Mayor Mitch Landrieu, former U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu and former Orleans Civil Court Judge Madeleine Landrieu.

Mrs. Landrieu served just one term on the Orleans Parish School Board, from 2004 until 2008. Her election came one year before Hurricane Katrina and the federal levee failures, which decimated the public school system and prompted a state takeover of the city’s failing schools. Despite challenging and often contentious times, when Mrs. Landrieu left office in 2008, she touted the board’s accomplishments.

The children of Pedro Cano claim the meatpacking facility their father worked at did not have appropriate precautions in place to prevent the spread of coronavirus

The family of a man who worked for Tyson Foods has pressed charges against the company after he died of coronavirus earlier this year.

Pedro Cano, 51, was a meatpacker working “elbow-to-elbow,” the suit claims, with fellow maskless and gloveless employees at a pork processing plant in eastern Iowa in April when he contracted COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel virus that has thrown the world into a pandemic.

A lawsuit is accusing Tyson of “gross negligence” after not informing factory workers of proper safety precautions to prevent being exposed to the virus.

Providence Montana did not address how the hospitals would proceed if ICUs were over capacity and if the hospitals themselves were full.

In an email, Community Medical Center encouraged people to continue social distancing, wearing a mask and avoiding large gatherings.

“As reported by Governor Bullock, cases of COVID-19 continue to increase in our state. With the documented increase in confirmed positive cases, hospitals throughout the state, including ours, have seen an expected increase in hospitalizations over the last several weeks,” said spokesperson Sarah Buszmann in an email.

Julie Davis, who taught at Norwood Elementary School in Stanly County, died from Covid-19 related complications, according to Michelle Bailey, a spokeswoman for the Stanly County School District. While the official cause of death hasn’t been released, Bailey confirmed Davis’ diagnosis.

“We are extending our deepest condolences to Mrs. Davis’ family,” the district said. “We were truly blessed by her professionalism and caring spirit.” A family member told CNN affiliate WSOC that Davis was one of the “hardest workers and that she was compassionate, caring, thoughtful and someone who loved to the depths of her soul.”

Davis began experiencing symptoms on September 25th and immediately self-quarantined, Bailey said.

On September 29th, the Stanly County Health Department notified parents of the teacher’s third grade class that they were required to quarantine for 14 days after being exposed to a staff member who had tested positive for the coronavirus.

A Student Dies, and a Campus Gets Serious About Coronavirus

October 5, 2020

| Health Article

BOONE, N.C. — Since last Monday, when a sophomore at his school died from suspected Covid-19 complications, Chase Sturgis says he has been thinking about his own bout with the coronavirus — and his own mortality.

Mr. Sturgis, 21, had been avoiding socializing over the summer, but as students at his school, Appalachian State University, began returning to campus in August, he yielded to temptation. “We went out to a bar,” he said. Within days he felt ill, and then tested positive for coronavirus: “To this day I have no sense of taste or smell.”

But even more unnerving is the “really, honestly scary” realization that he and the student who died, 19-year-old Chad Dorrill, were sick at about the same time, with similar symptoms and no known pre-existing conditions. “He died a week or two after he got the virus,” Mr. Sturgis said. “It has been about two weeks
