| Dept Of Health

On October 13, the Department of Defense (DOD), on behalf of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), awarded an Other Transaction Agreement to Cue Health Inc., San Diego, California, to expand U.S. production capacity of point-of-care COVID-19 tests.

This industrial base expansion effort will allow Cue Health to increase production to 100,000 COVID-19 test kits per day by March 2021, and demonstrate this capacity through the delivery of six million COVID-19 tests to the U.S. Government to support the domestic COVID-19 response. The Cue COVID-19 Test is a molecular test that detects the ribonucleic acid (RNA) of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, in about 20 minutes using a nasal swab sample taken from the lower part of the nose using the Cue Sample Wand.

Cue’s COVID-19 Test runs on the compact and portable Cue Health Monitoring System and a single-use COVID-19 test kit includes a COVID-19

| Community Health

The Federal Electronic Health Record Modernization (FEHRM) program office announces the Department of Defense (DOD), Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and Department of Homeland Security’s U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) significantly expanded their joint health information exchange (HIE) network with the private sector on Oct. 9 after connecting with the CommonWell Health Alliance.

CommonWell brings a nationwide network of more than 15,000 hospitals and clinics to the 46,000 community partners already part of the joint HIE.

Launched earlier this year, the joint HIE is a modernized health data sharing capability that enhances the ability of DOD, VA and USCG to quickly and securely share electronic health record (EHR) data bidirectionally with participating community health care providers. The result provides more informed care for patients who are navigating between different health care providers.

“The CommonWell connection means DOD, VA and USCG providers can access more information about their patients to make the

The Note: Republicans stuck on uneasy defense on health care

October 13, 2020

The TAKE with Rick Klein

Elections, of course, have consequences. What happens right before elections also has consequences – or so candidates hope.

With three weeks of voting left, President Donald Trump and his Republican Party find themselves in an uneasy state of defense when it comes to issues that have alternately energized and frustrated the GOP going back at least a decade.

In Washington, Democrats are less focused on blocking Judge Amy Coney Barrett’s Supreme Court nomination than they are making the case about what that could mean almost immediately after the election. They are arguing that she would likely find Obamacare unconstitutional when the Trump administration’s arguments are heard shortly after the election.

Said Sen. Kamala Harris, doing double duty as vice-presidential candidate and a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee: “Republicans finally realized that the Affordable Care Act is too popular to repeal in Congress, so now

Air Force Col. Merlyn Dethlefsen > U.S. DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE > Story

October 5, 2020

| Dept Of Health

Most fighter-bomber missions meant to knock out enemy defense systems during the Vietnam War only involved one fly-by — the pilots knew there were few chances of escaping enemy aircraft if you executed more than one pass. Air Force Col. Merlyn Dethlefsen knew that when he took charge of a daring raid over a North Vietnamese steel plant in 1967, but he ignored the status quo to make sure the mission was a success. For that, he earned the Medal of Honor.

Dethlefsen was born in Greenville, Iowa, on June 29, 1934. As the son of a farmer and a schoolteacher, he did well at academics, graduating with honors from high school in 1951 when he was just 16.

Dethlefsen went to Iowa State University for about two years before deciding to join the Air Force in 1953. He started aviation cadet training the following year and was commissioned as
