Crisp And Green

If you’ve never heard of Crisp & Green before, it’s probably because you don’t live in Minnesota. The fast casual’s menu focuses on scratch-made salads and customizable grain bowls, with ingredients that shift with the season. Up in the land of 10,000 lakes, the chain of health-focused eateries have been amassing an impressive fan base since 2016. Now they’re ready to expand their footprint into several markets across the US.

“It’s a unique time to be nationally franchising a brand while so many restaurants have struggled to remain open,” says Crisp & Green founder and CEO Steele Smiley, who today announces the signing of a lease in Dallas, Texas. “[We’ve] been successful to date because our food exceeds expectations, we are a digitally native brand and our wellness classes connect with community members across the board.”

Roche blames supply chain issue for virus test kit delays

October 7, 2020

| Health News

Swiss pharmaceutical firm Roche apologised on Wednesday for a supply chain failure that could delay the processing of coronavirus and other diagnostic tests across Britain.

The delays come against a backdrop of concern about rising numbers of Covid-19 cases and pressure on the government to introduce tougher restrictions to curb the spread.

The state-run National Health Service (NHS) is already struggling with the pandemic’s impact on waiting times and access to services such as cancer treatment and elective surgery.

Roche blamed the delay on “unforeseen issues” in its move to a new national UK distribution centre in southeast England last month.

“We deeply regret that there has been a delay in the dispatch of some products and apologise to any of our customers who have been impacted,” it said in a statement.

“The teams at the National Distribution Centre are working exceptionally hard, day and night, to resolve this issue

| Health Food

Food supply chain management, or FSCM, has long been put forth as a low-hanging-fruit application in the enterprise blockchain space. Now, after years of pilots, the verdict is finally in: Blockchain-supported FSCM works perfectly.

For innovation managers in food companies that haven’t yet dabbled, this is your chance. The big players have put in millions of dollars to prove the efficacy of the tech. All you have to do now is figure out the right application for your business.

Of course, there are still risks — and in this article I’ll provide ways to minimize them — but the opportunity is huge. Done right, you’ll reduce operational expenses, reach new markets, differentiate your products, and grow market share.

FSCM: The perfect enterprise blockchain use case?

The California fitness chain, which laid off the majority of its employees in March, is working with an adviser as it considers alternatives after the coronavirus caused it to shut more than 60 locations, said one of the people. They asked not to be identified because the talks are private.

Canada’s Life Chain to include safety protocols to protect public health

| Health Magazine

OTTAWA, Ontario (CNS) — The annual National Life Chain will be held across Canada Oct. 4 despite a surge in the number of COVID-19 cases in Canada’s largest provinces and the prime minister warning of a COVID-19 “second wave.”

Organizers said they believe their pro-life message is more important than ever. They said the rules they have put in place make the gathering of pro-life Canadians at about 200 outdoor locations across the country as safe as possible for participants and the public.

One of the event’s key organizers told Canadian Catholic News that COVID-19 safety protocols and a new code of conduct have been developed.

“There should be no problem for anyone who is generally healthy to take part in this year’s Life Chain,” said Josie Luetke, a Life Chain Canada committee member and youth coordinator for the Campaign Life Coalition.

In the decade since Leonard Green & Partners, a private equity firm based in Los Angeles, bought control of a hospital company named Prospect Medical Holdings for $205 million, the owners have done handsomely.

Leonard Green extracted $400 million in dividends and fees for itself and investors in its fund — not from profits, but by loading up the company with debt. Prospect CEO Sam Lee, who owns about 20% of the chain, made $128 million while expanding the company from five hospitals in California to 17 across the country. A second executive with an ownership stake took home $94 million.

The deal hasn’t worked out quite as well for Prospect’s patients, many of whom have low incomes. (The company

Suspected ransomware attack disrupts hospital chain

September 29, 2020

| Health Article

A suspected ransomware attack disrupted patient care at a large chain of hospitals and clinics operating in the United States and Britain, the latest in a series of cyberattacks on the health care system in recent months.

Universal Health Services said in a statement it suffered “an information technology security incident” on Sunday which “may result in temporary disruptions to certain aspects of our clinical and financial operations.”

UHS, which operates 26 acute care hospitals and other health facilities in the US and Britain, said acute care and behavioral health operations were “utilizing their established back-up processes including offline documentation methods.”

The cybersecurity blog BleepingComputer said the attack appeared to be using Ryuk, malware linked to North Korean hackers which encrypts computer systems until a ransom is paid.

One UHS employee told BleepingComputer that files were being renamed to include the .ryk extension used by Ryuk.

Cyberattack hobbles hospital chain Universal Health Services

September 29, 2020

| Health Issues

A computer outage at a major hospital chain thrust health care facilities across the U.S. into chaos Monday, with treatment impeded as doctors and nurses already burdened by the coronavirus pandemic were forced to rely on paper backup systems.

Universal Health Services, which operates more than 250 hospitals and other clinical facilities in the U.S., blamed the outage on an unspecified IT “security issue” in a statement posted to its website Monday but provided no details about the incident, such as how many facilities were affected and whether patients had to be diverted to other hospitals.

UHS workers reached by The Associated Press at company facilities in Texas and Washington, D.C. described mad scrambles after the outage began overnight on Sunday to render care, including longer emergency room waits and anxiety over determining which patients might be infected with the virus that causes COVID-19.

The Fortune 500 company, with 90,000

Hospital chain targeted in possibly one of the largest cyberattacks on US medical systems: report

NBC News reported Monday that computer systems began to crash over the weekend across different locations operated by UHS, which has roughly 400 facilities across the U.S., Puerto Rico and the United Kingdom and employs 90,000 employees, according to its website.

One source told NBC News that the breach appears to be a ransomware attack, where hackers use malicious software to lock up computer networks and then demand payment to return access to these systems.

The Hill has reached out to UHS for comment.

The Hill reported earlier this year that hospitals are increasingly bracing for such attacks, particularly with health
