Al Adil: ‘Health is Wealth’ a proverb that carries great meaning

I have faced a lot of challenging incidents in my life. I have escaped narrowly from the clutches of death four times. The fourth time I faced death was due to sheer negligence. In school days, we all memorise the proverb, “health is wealth”, but seldom remember those golden words in later life. I also made the same mistake of overlooking my health.

When my father retired from his business, he passed on the responsibility of managing Al Adil Trading Company and a couple of retail shops in Dubai to me. I was married then and had a happy family. I was enjoying life with a loving and caring wife and two adorable children. Somehow a grand ambition to expand my business captured my mind. In an attempt to increase the sales volume rapidly, I focused entirely on business. I became a workaholic and began chasing money. I completely neglected the work-life balance. My disturbed lifestyle, late night sleeping and irregular food habits ultimately resulted in severe acidity first and later led to other symptoms like back pain, headache, and finally, resulted in deep depression. I couldn’t eat or sleep peacefully. I underwent nine endoscopies, tried various therapies and medications – but to no avail. I started to fear death.

I was desperately searching for any remedy that would free me from the pain. In those days, I had visited a number of temples, mosques and churches and begged God to give me a second chance at life. Once when I was at the Krishna Mandir in Dubai, I saw a poor but stout man outside the temple eating lunch happily with his family. I realised then that the most precious treasure in life is a sound mind and a sound body. I became determined to regain my lost health.

Perhaps the Almighty heard my prayer. Some days later when I was watching a TV show on acupuncture therapy, I decided to try it, and miraculously, it worked. After a month of acupuncture sessions, my back pain vanished forever. Consultations and medications from a good psychiatrist relieved me from depression. My severe acidity was also brought under control by Ayurvedic medications prescribed by Dr Nachiket Wachasunder from Karad.

Since then, I have been diligently following an ideal lifestyle. I am quite convinced by the proverb – “Early to bed and early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise”. I have kept myself away from tobacco and liquor – the two prime enemies of good health.

My day now starts with yoga and ends with meditation. I do regular exercise and have a simple but nutritious diet. I devote time to myself, my family and business equally. I have decided to enjoy life to its fullest. Friends! This Covid-19 pandemic is an alarming thing, but also a time to make changes in our life. We must have to adopt a new lifestyle that includes health consciousness, work-life balance, social contribution, positive thinking, and happy living.
