Health department offering free flu shots for uninsured people – News – The Topeka Capital-Journal

The Shawnee County Health Department is providing free flu shots specifically for uninsured people aged at least 19 years old.

The event is Wednesday from 4-6:30 p.m. at Hummer Sports Park, 2751 SW East Circle Dr. S #1. Linda Ochs, director of the health department, said anyone interested in attending should head toward the parking lot by the stadium for a flu shot.

No appointment is necessary and participants do not need to bring anything with them. Ochs said there are both drive through and walk up options, so anyone taking the bus can get a shot.

She said participants can fill out paperwork online at the Shawnee County Health Department’s immunizations web page before arriving, but that paperwork will also be available at the event.

“You don’t want to have the flu and COVID at the same time,” Ochs said.

The Capital-Journal reported Oct. 2 that doctors said it is more important to get a flu shot now than ever before. Coronavirus can be more severe if someone has both the flu and COVID-19.

Doctors recommend getting a flu shot in October or before Thanksgiving.

SCHD encourages anyone with any additional questions about flu shots to contact them at 785-251-5700.
