East Shore Health Department Announces Public Flu Clinics

Press release from the East Shore Health Department:

Oct 1, 2020

For the first time in this country we will have two viruses circulating at the same time, Covid-19 and Influenza. Every year, the flu sends of thousands of Connecticut residents to the hospital and for some it can be fatal. In order ease the strain on our healthcare system, which is already overburdened by the COVID pandemic. Experts say how these two will interact in the body is an unknown, so the best thing is to use the current effective tool we have to avoid one of them — and that’s the flu vaccine.”

The best plan is to get the vaccine before the virus is likely to hit our area. “We usually see a rise in cases in November and December,” says Rita Foster, Public Health Nurse Supervisor at ESDHD. “We recommend a September-October time frame for getting the vaccine so that you build up an immune response before it starts circulating in our community.
