Ciara recently posted a makeup-free selfie to Instagram.
The singer previously opened up about her skincare routine, and is a huge fan of vitamin C serum, some drugstore favorites, and facials.
Ciara gave birth to her newborn son Win a few weeks ago, and she’s proving that the post pregnancy glow is real. The 34-year-old singer shared a makeup-free selfie to Instagram just days after giving birth, and we can’t help but notice how radiant her skin looks.
In the selfie, Ciara rocks her natural hair and embraces her skin without a trace of makeup in sight (aside from some gloss or balm on her lips).
Ciara has previously opened up about her skincare routine, telling W Magazine that her perception of beauty has changed since becoming a mom to Future, Sienna, and Win. “All of the flaws are what makes us who we are; it’s a part of our character,” she said. “You get so much further in life by embracing who you are.”
Still, the singer, dancer, and model pampers her complexion with a few simple staples. Here’s everything Ciara does to keep her skin looking flawless, with or without makeup.
1. She’s pretty relaxed when it comes to cleansing.
Ciara always cleanses twice a day, and she uses a simple product to get the job done: her body cleanser. “It’s really bad, but I wash my face with my body soap,” she told Allure. “I was telling a dermatologist that, and they thought I was crazy. They were looking at me like I had four eyes or something.”
“Whatever I wash my body with, I will use for my face. I don’t know if that’s the smartest thing,” she added.
It depends on what you’re using! Ciara typically reaches for a Dove body wash—and the brand is known for its moisturizing, gentle products.
2. A brightening vitamin C serum is her go-to.
After cleansing, Ciara reaches for a vitamin C serum. “I’ve been loving the vitamin c serum from Derma E. There’s so many levels to skincare, especially for Black women,” she said.
Vitamin C is an antioxidant known for it its skin-brightening effects, as it can help fade dark spots and sun damage. Plus, it helps produce collagen to plump the skin and reduce the appearance of fine lines.
3. She loves a good moisturizer.
“It may sound crazy, but Cetaphil Moisturizing Lotion is really good,” Ciara told Allure. “I use it on myself and my baby. And since I wash my face frequently, Cetaphil makes sure it doesn’t dry out.”
“It also really helps if you’ve just got a lot of sun. I just got a lot of sun recently and my nose was starting to peel and I was like, OK, let me get my Cetaphil moisturizer. Put it on there and soften it up,” she shared.
She also told The Zoe Report that she likes the Murad Essential-C Day Moisturizer, which also contains vitamin C and SPF 30 in addition to moisturizing ingredients. She said “paired with some of the Skinceuticals products I’ve received, it’s done wonders for my skin.”
4. She steals her husband’s body lotion.
Apparently, Ciara’s husband Russell Wilson has great taste in body lotions. “We both love Kiehl’s lotion, and one of our bottles [winds up] missing at times. I take his Kiehl’s bottle from his countertop, and it ends up on mine,” she shared to Allure. “We have things that we share, and that is one of them.”
We have to assume that she’s talking about the Kiehl’s Crème de Corps, a cult-favorite lotion from the brand, which is infused with ultra-nourishing ingredients like cocoa butter, squalene, and various oils.
5. Aquaphor Healing Ointment is the MVP.
Another drugstore favorite, Ciara loves Aquaphor’s Healing Ointment, which works to seal in moisture and repair dry, cracked skin. “It’s actually kind of three-in-one for me, ‘cause it’s really for my babies, but I use it as well,” she told Allure.
6. She gets microdermabrasion treatments.
Microdermabrasion treatments use a mildly abrasive instrument to gently remove dead skin cells on the top layer of the skin, improving the look of scarring, discoloration, sun damage, and fine lines.
“One thing I’ve been doing that I discovered years ago is Microderm. I really love doing Microderm,” she told Byrdie. “I actually haven’t done it in a while, but I got addicted to it because you can really see the difference—your before and after is huge, and every time you’ve always got a nice glow after like you’ve gotten rid some of those old dead skin cells.”
7. She eats a balanced diet.
Ciara, who has opened up about her weight loss journey following the birth of Win in August, eats a nutrient-rich diet and stays active with four to five workouts a week.
“Ultimately, it’s about balance, from what you eat to working out, and for me, what I’ve learned is that what you eat is the most important part,” she told Byrdie. “You can go to the gym and eat a burrito after and be like, ‘I went to the gym, so it doesn’t matter,’ but you’ll never get the body you want that way, so I eat in moderation. I eat five to eight small meals a day, and I’m really, really consistent with my regimen. And also, I drink tons of water.”
8. She’s comfortable in her own skin.
Ciara admits her body image changed throughout life. “Once I got older, I realized it’s actually cool to embrace all of these things that I thought were flaws,” she told W.
“When you get more comfortable, you realize that none of that stuff is changing, so the last thing you want to do is walk around being worried about it,” she added. “Embrace what you have—that is part of loving yourself, and understanding the power of loving yourself is game-changing.”
“Once I did that, my confidence level went up tremendously. It’s the best feeling when you’re not overthinking about yourself, whether it’s the small mark I have on my face—which I think is a birthmark, to tell the truth,” she shared. “But that’s a part of who I am. When I look at a lot of women that I admire, I love how they’re confident. There’s something so sexy about confidence, and I think you kind of grow into that.”
