| Community Health

AUSTIN, TX — Austin Public Health has launched a high-risk worker hotline to promote the safety and well-being of the vulnerable workers in the community, officials said Tuesday.

The hotline, which is operated by Austin Voices for Education and Youth, provides information and referral services for front line staff who need assistance due to COVID-19. These referral services, to organizations such as Austin Area Urban League, Worker’s Defense Project and Texas Rio Grande Legal Aid, include legal case management, assistance applying for unemployment, and one-time financial assistance.

“We are proud to work as a community to launch this hotline that will provide a variety of services for high-risk workers in our community,” Austin Public Health Director Stephanie Hayden said in a prepared statement. “It is an important step to assisting our vulnerable community members in a way that is helpful to them. | Community Health

The Federal Electronic Health Record Modernization (FEHRM) program office announces the Department of Defense (DOD), Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and Department of Homeland Security’s U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) significantly expanded their joint health information exchange (HIE) network with the private sector on Oct. 9 after connecting with the CommonWell Health Alliance.

CommonWell brings a nationwide network of more than 15,000 hospitals and clinics to the 46,000 community partners already part of the joint HIE.

Launched earlier this year, the joint HIE is a modernized health data sharing capability that enhances the ability of DOD, VA and USCG to quickly and securely share electronic health record (EHR) data bidirectionally with participating community health care providers. The result provides more informed care for patients who are navigating between different health care providers.

“The CommonWell connection means DOD, VA and USCG providers can access more information about their patients to make the

(Reuters) – The U.S. government has awarded diagnostic testing company Cue Health Inc $481 million to scale up the production of rapid COVID-19 molecular test, the Department of Health and Human Services said on Tuesday.

The company will raise the domestic production of COVID-19 test kits to 100,000 per day by March 2021 under the deal and deliver 6 million tests and 30,000 instruments to the government to support its response to the pandemic, the health agency said.

The point-of-care test can detect the novel coronavirus in about 20 minutes with nasal swab samples collected using a Sample Wand from the lower part of the nose, the HHS said.

The system also allows results to be sent to a mobile phone via an app.

The company’s test kit was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in June for emergency use in patient care settings under the supervision

| Community Health

PITTSFIELD TOWNSHIP, MI — Activists and public officials will gather to discuss disparities among the Black community in Washtenaw County.

Activists will focus on five key areas at the ” Getting Real About Race” event, including housing, employment, education, health care and the criminal justice system in the county. It will run from 2-6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17 at Lillie Park, 4365 Platt Road in Ann Arbor. Anyone interested is encouraged to register online.

“It’s one thing to know there’s a problem but there’s a whole other element to put some solutions in place. In Washtenaw County, we’ve been protesting, we have people of all different races coming together. While marching is definitely a part of it, we wanted individuals to know there’s another layer of work that needs to be done,” said Trische Duckworth, founder and executive director of Survivors Speak, a nonprofit leading the event.

Coffee isn’t significant only because so many people drink it to start their day, said Steve Sanders, owner of Falls Coffee Co.

There are many other reasons it is significant, he asserted. For example, he said, coffee is a patriotic drink signifying freedom, as colonists switched to coffee and away from tea as a way to protest the British tea tax.

And in a Facebook post on the Falls Coffee Co. site, Sanders observed that in horror movies, the person drinking coffee never gets killed.

The goal of Falls Coffee Co., which opened Sept. 1 as an online business where customers can order roasted coffee, is “to incorporate the police and the community.”

As a law enforcement officer, Sanders wants to employ officers, donate a portion of the

In March, when most Leon County Schools were abruptly closed due to the major health crisis, most students assumed that everything would be back to normal within two weeks.

However, when weeks turned into months, Rohan and Neha realized that they weren’t the only ones who didn’t know when they would go back to school or what the next year

would look like.

With so much unknown about COVID-19, they wanted to create a platform that connected their community in a way that would make everyone more health-conscious.

Rohan Chadha and Neha Iyer held a fundraiser for the Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare Emergency COVID Fund, where Rohan sold custom-made origami and spray paint artwork.
