Indiana hits record level of new coronavirus infections

October 10, 2020

| Dept Of Health

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Republican Gov. Eric Holcomb said he’s still comfortable lifting COVID-19 restrictions in Indiana after health officials on Friday reported a record-high day of new infections in the state.

The Indiana State Department of Health announced that 1,832 more Hoosiers have tested positive for the coronavirus. That brings the total number of Indiana residents known to have had the coronavirus to 131,493 as the state’s seven-day rolling average of new cases of the respiratory disease continues growing at record levels.

Health officials are now urging people to double down on protective measures.

Western Indiana’s Vigo County Health Department issued a warning Friday discouraging large gatherings, noting that the county’s current COVID-19 cases are mostly linked to a recent apple festival and other outdoor events with a large attendance. In Elkhart County, where both of the area’s local hospitals are full, the local health department said on its Facebook

Pierce County Health: Schools Should Prepare For Remote Learning

October 10, 2020

| Dept Of Health

PIERCE COUNTY, WA — Depending on how the county handles the coronavirus pandemic over the next two weeks, Pierce County schools may be forced to completely close all their classrooms once again near the end of October, according to the latest update from the Tacoma – Pierce County Health Department.

Recently the number of daily coronavirus infections in Pierce County has been on the rise, and Wednesday, the county passed a worrying threshold: reporting 75.6 new coronavirus infections per every 100,000 residents over the past two weeks. That’s just over the cutoff rate of 75 cases, pushing Pierce County from a “moderate risk” county to a “high risk” county under state guidance. That guidance strongly recommends that all high risk counties hold classes completely remotely, which Pierce County’s top health official says they will do if high case counts persist.

“You asked to avoid rapid back-and-forth changes (“yo-yoing”) and for

Providence Montana did not address how the hospitals would proceed if ICUs were over capacity and if the hospitals themselves were full.

In an email, Community Medical Center encouraged people to continue social distancing, wearing a mask and avoiding large gatherings.

“As reported by Governor Bullock, cases of COVID-19 continue to increase in our state. With the documented increase in confirmed positive cases, hospitals throughout the state, including ours, have seen an expected increase in hospitalizations over the last several weeks,” said spokesperson Sarah Buszmann in an email.

“At this time, our hospital has adequate capacity to meet patient needs, including in critical care/intensive care. We continually monitor the prevalence of the virus in our community, in addition to evaluating operational capacity and following all necessary protocols, to ensure we are able to meet the vital needs of our patients.

“Beyond our hospital walls, we are working closely with the

WOODSTOCK, Ill. – The McHenry County Department of Health (MCDH) has launched a School Metrics Dashboard on its website to assist school districts and increase transparency and raise public awareness.

In partnership with McHenry County Administration, the County’s Emergency Management Agency and superintendents representing the majority of public schools in McHenry County, MCDH has been working for several weeks on developing guidance, which includes metrics and criteria to evaluate transitions between virtual, hybrid or in-person learning models.

Public Health Administrator Melissa Adamson said, “The dashboard is a resource to help school officials make data-informed decisions about their schools learning model during the COVID-19 pandemic. It includes interim school guidance, including a full decision matrix, the latest COVID-19 data for the county and guidelines for schools and students.”

Adamson added, “I want to express my appreciation to the superintendents for their contributions and partnership. I hope this can be used as

ST PAUL, Minn. — Friday, Oct. 9

  • No-barrier testing locations announced for week of Oct. 12

Michigan health department issues sweeping COVID-19 regulations that mirror Whitmer orders

October 9, 2020

The leader of Michigan’s health department issued a sweeping order Friday that largely mirrors statewide mandates previously levied by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer in an effort to curb the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

Michigan rival college coaches join Gov. Whitmer with common message: ‘Mask up’

The newly instituted order requires masks at any public gathering with two or more people — including sporting events and schools — for much of the state and maintains restrictions on the number of people who may enter stores or restaurants. Unlike under Whitmer’s orders, bars are now allowed to operate but they may only serve alcohol to people who are sitting down and 6 feet apart.

A government official said on Friday that he expects two leading drug manufacturers to produce 1 million doses of antibody treatments to be administered to the public at no cost.

Department of Health and Human Services official Paul Mango told reporters that the government’s Operation Warp Speed program already has produced “a couple of hundred thousand doses” of the treatments so far.

Mango said the department expects 1 million doses of the antibody treatments to be produced by Regeneron Pharmaceuticals and Eli Lilly & Company by the end of 2020. Mango reiterated President Trump, who said earlier this week that the drugs would be given to patients who need them for free.

Both Regeneron and Eli Lilly have insisted that their treatments, which differ in their administration, have been shown to be safe during clinical trials. Regeneron’s drug relies on a mix of two
