The Indiana Department of Health announced Sunday that 921 additional Hoosiers have been diagnosed with COVID-19.
That brings to 117,450 the total number of Indiana residents known to have the novel coronavirus.
A total of 3,354 Hoosiers are confirmed to have died from COVID-19, an increase of three from the previous day’s report. Another 226 probable deaths have been reported based on clinical diagnoses in patients for whom no positive test is on record.
To date, 1,358,860 unique individuals have been tested in Indiana, up from 1,350,390 on Saturday. A total of 2,012,675 tests, including repeat tests for unique individuals, have been reported to the state Department of Health since Feb. 26.
Another 50 Allen County residents have tested positive for COVID-19, with 37 confirmed PCR cases and 13 probable antigen cases, bringing the total to 6,303 cases and 200 deaths Sunday.
The Allen County case count includes 386 probable cases from antigen tests reported since July 28.
Six injured in Fort Wayne collision
Six people were injured in a two-car crash, including three victims suffering from life-threatening injuries, early Sunday at the intersection of West Jefferson Boulevard and Catalpa Street in Fort Wayne.
Fort Wayne police saida Dodge Charger was traveling east on West Jefferson Boulevard about 1:11 a.m. when it crossed the center line and struck a Chevy Equinox going west. Each vehicle was carrying three people.
One person in the Charger and two people in the Equinox suffered life-threatening injuries, police said in a statement.
Traffic was closed between Lindenwood Avenue and Main Street while investigators processed the scene. The crash is under investigation.
Gary police wound homicide suspect
Police in Gary shot and wounded a man early Sunday after seeing him shoot and kill another man, a police department spokeswoman said.
Officers responding to a report of gunfire about 2:30 a.m. were dispersing a crowd outside a nightclub when they heard more gunfire, Gary police spokeswoman Dawn Westerfield said.
The officers saw a gunman shooting at a man on the ground, at which point the officers opened fire and struck the gunman in a leg, Westerfield said. The gunman then fired at the officers but didn’t strike anyone.
The gunman was taken to a hospital, where he was stabilized, Westerfield said. The man on the ground was pronounced dead at the scene, she said.
3 killed in northwest traffic crash
Three people died after a traffic collision near the border of Lake and Porter counties, authorities said Sunday.
The crash occurred Saturday night on U.S. 12. Two of the victims were identified as Gary residents.
